Yeah but we kept patient with him, because he does have the centre forward tools, works hard, excellent in the air and extremely fast and did chip in with a few goals, now it's paying off. Think the only players who have scored more than him, have scored a ruck of penalties. What's not to like ? In a team that is not possession based, the manager admitted that and does not attack enough of really create enough.

Thats all hindsight mate - for every DCL who makes it there are 50 Solanke's, Brewster, Ibe's, Jelavic etc etc who dont make it and considering we were in the bottom 3 under 2 managers I dont get how people can say "arrrgh lad how could you think our main striker who scored 5 goals all season isn't good enough for a team throwing hundreds of millions around trying to break into the elite" Make no mistake we would have gone down under Koeman/Silva and thats not all on DCL by any stretch but a top striker is worth their weight in gold.

Its hindsight nonsense is what it is - same if Iwobi scores 15 goals next season you'll get *some* posters pretending like he was always good and just needed to be played in his right position or needed time and gloss over the 2 seasons of bang average performances.

Ultimately he was a victim of circumstance - context is everything its easy to forget those frustrated comments where not from someone who was watching his side sit in 5th playing good football no it was from someone naively fed a dream by the new owners of top 6 challenges and Hollywood football whilst we ended up in the relegation spots under 2 consecutive managers fighting potential relegation and playing God awful football.

The problem is mate is circumstance - we couldn't afford to give DCL a few years to keep scoring 5 goals a season as Evertons no1 when we were in mid table looking over our shoulder at the relegation spots. With Kean its a different as DCL is now matured and we also now have potentially King whereas 2 seasons ago it was a wet behind the ears DCL or Toshun/Niasse who you may as well have you or me on the bench!

Ultimately I can only judge from what Im seeing on the pitch at the time which was DCL wasn't at that time good enough for Everton both in terms of output and just ability - I know you mention his aerial prescence etc but even then they were nowhere near the standard they are now - the only thing I couldn't fault him on was work rate which was great but ultimately that wasn't enough at that period of time.

I was happy signing Kean last summer but I always said ideally we needed a Giroud/Dzeko type coming in as well as it made no sense having 2 work in progresses in DCL/Kean without an experienced player to take the pressure away from them.

I just think with DCL people rewrite history whereas for example I've seen people who have always backed DCL slate Kean and call him crap when Keans younger than what DCL was 2 seasons ago!! But if Kean comes back next season and scores 15 goals I wont hold them to that opinion as they can only ultimately judge him on what they have seen in an Everton shirt to date.

You may be right that at that specific time we were not necessarily in a position to nurture a player who was not banging them in straight away. However, I don't see your posts saying that, it is all 'crap this' and 'crap that,' Not going to be good enough'. Nothing about, we need a more experienced CF to come in and allow him to develop, more 'get rid now, never going to be good enough'

Own your mistakes, you saw it wrong. We have all been there, looked at a player and never saw any development or vice versa, saw a player as the next big thing only to turn out utter gash.

I was always sceptical that he would have anything like a season he is having, more in hope that he would start to be a finisher. He did seem to have all the desire to be a top player and his hold up play was visibly getting better and better but it was that darned thing strikers are judged on that gave me big doubts. I constantly said to my mates, once (if) he gets that he will be unplayable at times.

Carlo saw that and told him exactly how to do it and he did it.

Again you highlight those posts but for every one of those posts theres dozens more slating club for putting DCL and the club in that position in the first place.

Ultimately mate I support Everton FC I dont support DCL FC or Ross Barkley FC or whoever - these players get paid VERY handsomely to do a job and if they aint doing it to the standard required they will get flack its nothing new!

If DCL gets a chance to join Man Utd do you think he's going to stick out of love from your support 2 years ago when he was scoring 5 goals a season and we were sat 17th in the table? No he would be off in a shot as its just a job for the lad he has no loyalty to Everton and neither should he.

I dont agree with personal abuse of players btw but if a players playing crap I'll say as much same way when a players playing well I'll say as much. Whereas other super bloos have agenda's and they'll support a player regardless of form or slag off a player regardless of form (see Pickford, see Siggurdsson).
