As an outsider (irish) happy he might be kept out of the firing line. I though he might have been able to give another option of going longer. Rashford didnt make sense with the scotland excellent defensive set up. On a side note. Pickford looked solid.

Where would they have put the crosses in from? As soon as we were wide, we passed back to the central midfield area and back to the defenders... I'm sure if we actually got wide and in advance of their deep 5 man defence, we would have crossed and Kane would have felt more inclined to get in the box. As it was, everything was in the centrally congested areas and any balls in to the 'forwards' were instantly repelled.
Anyhoo, we can't drop saint Kane or Sterling, despite the fact they're hopelessly out of form/fitness...
No idea what the thinking was behind bringing Foden off though? Only player that was prepared to run with the ball. Kane and Sterling should have been off first for Grealish and DCL... If only to offer something different and would have been better than the sum total of Zero that RS and HK offered.

As an Irish man I would be more than happy if DCL and Pickford didn't even make the squad.
I understand the English will want as many Everton players as possible involved.
IN general we do not have a huge amount of players still playing over the summer.

Very much agree the changes didn't really provide much impetus or added creativity.
The system looked staid too. Solid, but had run out of ideas second half.
Still, I guess Southgate just decided to play the tournament long game. Get the point, put his team in a strong position to qualify, accept a poor performance and move on.
England do look short of goals at the moment. Just been 1-0 wins against modest opposition the last few games (yesterday aside). Its all that is needed, of course, but I don't feel like they can turn a deficit around against quality. Especially if Kane is not on song.
Maybe Southgate takes the handbrakes off in the knockouts, when needed?

The best striker England have and Southgate ignores him. Jane was a waste of space and to bring Rashford on instead of DCL was IMO poor judgement. For me DCL would also have been a better bet than Grealish. However good job not part of that poor England performance.
