a touch means possession of the ball - be it a one touch pass or a dribble. If a player touches the ball 18 times before passing it, it is counted as one touch possession wise. He got on the ball 7 times - one being at kick off. FFS

Your eagerness to defend a player who spent more energy engineering a move away from our club than he did in the fa cup semi against united speaks volumes. He hasn't learned from this as he opened his big gob before this awful spell of gamers for Chelsea. He's an overrated arrogant oaf.... end of.
We are talking about a 1 in 2 striker. Seems you are more angry he left this circus than his ability to score goals based on that.

Would you rather him run the channels? Drop deep to win the ball back? I'm sure all these teams paying big money for him want him to score goals. Funny how when he gets chances created for him he scores 20+ goals a season.

Oh and he has a similar goal scoring record as Kane, literally a 30 or so game difference between them for similar totals.

we are talking a striker who gets his 1 in 2 ratio or whatever it is by feasting on poor sides and disappearing against sides where his team need him to be the difference - which is why he has won so little in his career and why he has such poor stats against top end sides.

I'm not angry at him - I'm angry that our club is overwhelmed by fanboy supporters who behave like we are lucky to get supposed marquee players and chanting his name to keep on the right side of him when he spent an international break touting himself around - Chelsea fans want rid....... talksport are currently talking about why he's overrated and Chelsea should get rid.

According to the Premier League website, Lukaku has scored 118 in 269, while Kane has 173 in 268.

The idea that these two are in any way comparable is ludicrous.

Romelu just scored 60 goals in Italy plus the odd goal in Belgium.

Lukaku is 251 in 508

Kane is 254 in 435.

So slightly bigger difference in games , due to Lukaku breaking through in Belgium in 2010/11 and Kane breaking through in 2013, more games at 16 and 17.

So effectively in terms of goals scored, they have essentially the same record in their career. Kane may be the better footballer of the two but in terms of actual goals, they have the same record.

Goals are literally what the striker is responsible for.

Do you not think it makes sense to compare their records in the division where they've both played, seeing as though Serie A is significantly weaker than the Premier League?

That would be completely selective then, given Lukaku spent 2 years playing in Italy. Only English teams, then Lukaku playing at 18/19 would then go against him , but you wouldn't expect him at that age to be scoring at the same rate at 25.

If you want to compare strikers you compare their career , not selectively pick only one league that favours one or the other.

You wouldn't say ibrahimovic is a worse striker than Kane because Kane has more goals in England and zlatan only scored in Italy/Spain/France/any league you deem inferior.

In ability Kane is better , no question. On their job, they have the same goals, if you just take 2 years (and 60 goals) out of Lukakus career then it's not a fair comparison.

I don't know how you could possibly argue that level of competition shouldn't come into it, but I don't think I'm going to change your mind on this.

I think any goal scored by Lukaku at Everton or West Brom should be worth 2 goals scored by Kane at Tottenham, as the teams were significantly weaker.

You can't take 2 years and 60 goals literally out of someone's career and then still directly compare players! It makes absolutely no sense.

You can apply context. The Premier League is the strongest league in the world. Over 9 years, Lukaku has scored in the Premier League at a rate greater than Didier Drogba, similar to Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink but less than Jamie Vardy and far less than Harry Kane. Only Aguero and Henry have better goals per game than Harry Kane. He is on a different level to Lukaku.

And yet people laugh when I say that Kevin Phillips is the greatest goal-scorer in the history of English football.

Would you extend this same courtesy to everyone plying their trades in lesser leagues? eg is Mitrovic the best striker in Europe right now?

I am completely amazed that actual people are making a case for Lukaku being a poor striker. I have heard it all now!!

You can argue about the merits of Lukaku vs Kane (I’d pick Kane) but to go into print with some of the guff posted on here is absolutely astonishing. Lukaku is a great striker who I would have in a heartbeat.

Chelsea are not playing to his strengths and more fool them. If you use him properly, he scores bucket loads.

Kane would have a Lewandwoski-esque goalscoring record in Serie A. He is utterly miles ahead of Lukaku as a player, they are playing different sports.
