2021/22 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Looked more like the player he was last season when he came on. Few good flick ons and a slightly better ball (Could argue good defending) would have had a goal.

Get a few more minutes, hopefully get a bit of confidence, not only in his ability but his fitness and we might just see him back next season.

We got in so many good positions to whip first time crosses in last night, if he had been on the pitch hopefully they would have done so. We lacked conviction in that area, too many touches out wide and then hitting the first man, probably because they did not think anybody would be in the box, etc.

Stumbling into traffic.

When are the excuses going to be dropped for this feller. He had one good season and that's it.

Sell ASAP.

You can't deny that injuries have stopped him from showing he can back up that one season. I think it is unfair to say that not being able to play games is an excuse for not having the best of seasons. He did actually start the season well to be honest and we do have some decent wide players who can service his style of play.

I would give him a good pre-season, if he is over the injuries then we will see but I think it is too early to write him off completely.

Hell of a big call for the manager this one. We simply cant afford to carry anybody in these two home games and i honestly dont know if he'll show up or not.
Over to lampard. I dont envy you on this one.
It boils down to what the problem has been I guess, doesn't it?

Lampard will know better than us.

Purely on the evidence of my own eyes last night, I'd like to see him start. We're so much more effective when Richarlison is freed from being a target man - and that is a role DCL excels at.

90 minutes is almost certainly beyond him, but if the alternative is Rondon, then I see no harm in giving DCL the opening 60 and bringing Rondon on then if needed.

But I'll say again, all of the above is caveated by me not having a clue what his fitness status is.

Of course it is - especially when his critics can't decide if he's a crock or he's already signed for Arsenal.

Never thought he would be a prolific scorer and he has proven me right.

Improved a little last season so I ate a slice of humble but has proven with his attitude and lack of effort in the small cameos he has had that he does not want to be here, time to cash in.

We have a number of promising forwards, just like him who may make more of an impact, he took years to show then stopped!!

Or...hes just recovering from injury.

Who are the "number of promising forwards" you speak of?

Carlo thought even with his goals, he should be criticised. Calvert-Lewin criticism is fair despite his goals, says Carlo Ancelotti

Mind you, that was IN his 16 goal scoring season.

Me, i thought that season was skewed, at least that stat. He got 2 ha tricks vs clubs 1/10th of watford.

I remain, he is part of the problem. Even if hes fit, hell, even if hes scores, hes not the 21st century, pep ball, hig press playing type of striker we need.

Hes not perfect no. But a guy who only gets hatricks against poor teams, and presses from the front is going to be out of our price range mate.

Some of the crack heads in this thread could do with remembering that when fully fit and firing he scored 21 goals in 39 games last season.

Imagine actually wanting Salmon and Rondon to play over him. Wonderful stuff.

He got about when he came on.

I hope he starts on Sunday, shift Richarlison out to the left and Gray goes to the bench.

Very frustrating last night when the wide players go into crossing positions and we only had one in the box. Him and Richarlison can get on the end of one.

Telegraph article about Newcastle interested , but behind paywall, I would sell if decent offer as will be v good for ffp
