A tad harsh youngfellamelad as many of us arl gits recall many excellent forward running fullbacks during the early 60's onwards. They could all defend as well. The very finest example of that era was our very own Ramon Wilson. A tiger in the tackle, and a complete Rolls Royce driving forward.

Maybe it is me, but I do not for one moment think attacking fullbacks is a 'modern' thing, nor do I accept is has to be at the expense of being an iffy defender.

It's absolutely not a new thing, but it's certainly more common now, just look at Carlos Alberto's goal vs Italy in the 1970 World Cup final.

He was struggling back to fitness after a serious injury and our only other option was the utterly useless Rondon.

Still let’s sell him and we’ll just pick a replacement from the queue of 15/20 goal strikers just dying to sign for Everton.
