Newcastle aren’t and never were going to bid.
This.

All the medical experts that peruse GOT are saying because he once hurt his quad, he is now injury prone for life. Newcastle already have an injury prone striker, so they aren't spending big bucks to buy another.

I mean he missed most of last season with an injury notoriously difficult for a player of his build/style of play to fully recover from.

Hardly need to be mystic meg to see it was a risk to build a team around someone who's become as reliable as Yerry Mina...

For Christ's sake mate. He had one injury. A bad one, but it doesn't suddenly make him injury prone, a liability and the sole reason our pre-season prepatation now condemns us to relegation and makes a mug out of our manager. Is VVD also finished mate? He was out for a season. Is Klopp now damaged goods for not having the foresight to know Pickford was going to land on his defender awkwardy?

Just listen to yourself. You're falling over yourself to be the prophet of doom, and full of 'I told you so'. Give it a bloody rest will ya.

He had one really bad injury but he's had several other knocks before and after it. He's had injury issues ever since the mid point of the lockdown season and not had a long run of games since.

If this is a long term injury, then the squad is currently relegation contenders. To rely on someone with such an obvious injury concern was never likely to work. As always we were badly prepared and took a silly gamble on not replacing Richarlison. All the eggs were in the DCL basket and its going to hurt us a lot. Its not his fault either - we owed it to him to bring him in some support.
I'm not sure it was an 'obvious injury concern' though. Dom did have a very bad injury last season, but did also have 6 weeks of solid rest and recovery and a proper pre-season, which he hadn't had for about 3 years, since 2019 in fact so yeah 3 years.

Maybe they all thought he was firing fit - and he's looked sharp in the 3 games he has played IMO - and as he himself said he was feeling good. We don't know what this injury is. If it's a reoccurrence that's a horrid worry, because it suggests there is something really wrong. But it might be awful luck and a completely new injury.

Now, the issue we have is we sold Richarlison but weren't just needing a Richarlison replacement, we need 5-6 players.

Then you throw in that Richarlison happens to not even be a striker, but a forward who can play anywhere across the frontline. Those players aren't easy to come by but have been looked at. Cornet we're still in for but it looks like Burnley want too much money up front, Dennis is still an option that we might go back in for, we've never disregarded him it seems, and Gibbs-White was a priority target. Broja is another one.

We aren't a good enough team to have a 'back up ST' that is any better than someone like Batshuayi, who I suppose we'd all turn our noses up at. So if we do get a forward, which we want, it's got to be someone versatile like Richarlison and those players cost money.

So I'm not making excuses, because it should have been a priority, but I've laid out there exactly where the club is at. It looks like we really did try to get a forward in to replace Richarlison and realised we were getting nowhere. So we've instead looked to bolster the rest of the squad beforehand, so going into the last month of the window we know exactly what we have to spend.

Ultimately, we've been hit by a huge blow right on the eve of the season, and it's horrible. The one positive is we do have time to amend it. But as I've said, we ain't got a lot of money, so the club are probably going to have to weigh up hopefully getting Gana over the line and then in the next week or so pumping all of the remaining cash into a striker. But that leaves us with little else to play with for the rest of the window, unless we could snag Broja on loan. But Chelsea might not want to do such a deal until they know what their business is going to be. There's a lot of moving parts here.
