I dont think that's true.

It was more to do with the fact that we were a one trick pony and the crossing into the box was seen as an easy way to snuff out Everton's goal threat.

All of which goes back to my raising the issue of DCL, his (and our) reliance on headed goals, and the need to develop different avenues for attack this season.

We get loads of crosses into the box. If we see this do people, and the pundits all see it, do we not think opposition managers see it and set up for it?

We need to be able to play through defences as well as work our way wide to swing crosses in to good headers of the ball like DCL and Richarlison.

James will leave. We have to replace him, and for all the howling down of Winks, I can see what the strategy is with regard to that.

Richarlison was affected the same way.

And is 32% of goals scored with the head not a little high for a PL stirker? It feels like it. I dont know how Ild find that answer so I'll hope others provide it, but it seems very high as a proportion.

Overall my question is about varying our attack and not crossing as much. Class teams will deal with that easy enough and we need another string to our bow. Doucoure running at them from midfield and a CM who can thread a forwatrd pass would help us no end.

Is Winks the CM that can “thread that forward pass”? Genuine question… because I’ve not seen enough of him to know.

It seems that Benitez reckons so. But the larger point to be made is not that individual but the need for someone to offer us an alternative attacking option who can also fit into the hard working team ethic.

I'm not saying that at all. It's not his fault that Everton use him almost solely as a target man for crosses. I'm sure he'd also like the option of being played in behind defences to get even more goals.

I said that out of frustartion with their attitudes to playing internationals rather than club football.

And tbh, yes, I'd sell one for £70M and reinvest because needs must.

See Rafael will have full commitment for the full length of the season, and DCL will be one of many who will benefit.

Weve only made small squad upgrades, but weve made a massive managerial upgrade.

But I ALSO stated that we need a passer of the ball who can also fit into the work ethic...and that just isn't James.

I want a team full of top internationals, that means we will be competing at a top level. Richarllason has a great attitude, wants to play football, same as DCL.
