2022/23 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Has Gordon been striking the place out since last January like Calvert-Lewin?

Gordon played brilliantly at times last season because he had an attacker like Richarlison to make runs and take the pressure of him to be the goalscorer.

Calvert-Lewin cant do that.

Look at him yesterday after missing that sitter: feigns a shoulder injury to try and hide his lack of finishing.

Just compare him with Mitrovic. It's a pitiful comparison.
You wanted Richarlison sold last season along with DCL.

He needs better service, the players you have mentioned had Cahil Arteta in this team have Gordon & Gray enough said
That too.

It's a rebuild job alright, like many it would be great to see some quality come in during the next transfer window, but we might not see it. It could be a strange one post world cup. Often seems to distort things a little the following transfer opportunity. And January windows always seem a but stranger to me in a normal season.

Yes, very clever. Now give me a defence of a forward who isn't cutting it and hasn't been for almost a year....

…I’ve made my point clearly, indeed I’ve made it since DCL first got injured. I’m wary of any players who suffer major big leg muscle injuries, they are at high risk of recurring & it should be part of the clubs transfer criteria to move them on if their stock returns to a high level.

Dreadful miss yesterday & a generally poor performance but a fit & robust DCL improves this team significantly. We saw a glimpse of that last week. What we can’t do is rely on him getting back to his peak and remaining fit. If he does it’ll be a major bonus because he’s decent.

in January we need an effective central striker option & possibly another attacking winger who carries genuine threat. If we can secure that I’d be more confident we won’t be in a scrap at the bottom.

Since last January he had a good run of games.

Question for you: do we need to buy a new striker in January?
He wax brought back too soon and was never properly fit. He wax a bit part player until towards the end of the season.

Yes we need a striker. DCL has had one season at a good level. I think he can still get back there, but I don’t think we can take the risk of hoping he will return to form and stay injury free.

The problem I see is getting the right player in January. They are either not available or we have to over pay.

Will be ruing the Gray cross he didn't slot. Would have been typical of the kind of goals he scored under Ancelotti. Caught offside a bit too much, also. No doubt he will be shaking off some rust. Still though, 90 more minutes in the tank.

Very poor miss, but it happens.

…yep, when he gets a chance I think he’ll always be in the ‘I hope he scores’ category rather than the ‘I expect him to score category’.

For me, it’s not about DCLs quality, it’s about his robustness. If he’s fit and well, it’s a major bonus but I think it’ll be very wise to have an effective option available.
