Absolute crap. Honestly for a centre forward that is bread and butter that chance. He does this time and time again. No way is he 20 goal striker you’ll get 10+ at best. Same with Maupay. Upfront we aren’t good. He’s living off his season with ancelotti. One touch finish is all he’s good at, give him time to think he crumbles. I would honestly sell him. I don’t rate him at all. Thinks he’s better than he is.
Just for clarification… a footballer who scores 10+goals a season in the premier league is “absolute crap”…?

our current leading goal scorer has 3 goals for the season so far with 14 games played

He doesn’t score 10+ goals a season though? He’s done it twice, one of them was a season played in front of NO fans so counts for very little.

I'm not sure what difference no fans has mate. He was still playing against professional players.

The position with him is though, is he a 10+ goal a season striker moving forward, with specific reference to his injuries? That is a very open question. Hes not the same player post injuries

It makes a huge difference. It makes football matches equivalent to training.

Being brutally honest though. 3-4 months at the start of the covid season apart he's been mostly awful for us, there's always some sort of excuse from fans.

He's young
He's out of position
He's not getting the service
He's injured

He's just a very average striker

Behind closed door football was like a different sport. Wasn't real football at all

He's not wrong. 2 10+ seasons out of 7 ( he's not getting 9 more this season ) doesn't make him a 10+ striker.

The lad it's useless. People compared him to Harry kane on here at one time, madness.

Hold on, he is 25, so sre we really going to count seasons where he was 18? Or not even playing in this league?

From the age of 22, he scored 15 goals, then 21 goals (domestic goals). Last season he missed 90% of it due to injury. It's completely consistent to say he was a very good striker for us, who was a 15+ goal scorer. However with injuries, he is now a lot more limited. It's a shame, and I doubt he will ever fulfill the potential he had due to those injuries.

I dont think we can say scoring 15, then 21 goals (outside of pens) in consecutive seasons is awful though mate. Its excellent. In the last 30 years, we have had 1 other striker who had a comparable record to that.

He was an excellent striker, and we were very fortunate to have him.

However, hes now badly affected by injuries, and we have no idea if he can get back to that level.

But let's be real, if he got back to the level he was at before, that would be massive for us.

As for the 3-4 months in Covid stuff, he didnt score 36 goals in that time did he? Its nonsense. He was scoring like 7 in 10 in that run. That is not a realistic barometer to measure a player too.

He wasn't injured 90% of last season, he played 17 league games.

He scored like 12/13 league goals in his first 10 league games under Carlo, then finished the season with another 4 in 20 odd games, just purely looking at the numbers that looks a fantastic season, but it wasn't it was massively inconsistent.

As you say though it's about moving forward and he's not got it in him to do it anymore, he can't stay fit, he's like yerry mina these days. Injury after injury

I’ve had my reservations about DCL at times, but lack of service isn’t an “excuse”. It’s a fact. He’s getting long balls all game every game, and is expected to win every aerial battle to start our attacks, then get in the box, get on the end of “quality” crosses from our wide players, and bag a couple. I doubt even Haaland could live up to that.

I am not convinced he is a top premier league striker, but he’s not average either. He missed an excellent chance today and we know his finishing isn’t clinical, his touch wasn’t and isn’t always great. He still put it on a platter for Iwobi, had a great run in the second half, did get himself in a position to miss that great chance, and did win quite a few of those aerial battles. Only a handful of those resulted in us keeping possession because there don’t seem to be many players in blue in the same post code.

Like I said I’m not convinced he’s a top player (or will ever become one), but the hostility towards him on here is completely over the top.
