2022/23 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

I agree, but it's now 2 years since he did that regularly, and that's a hell of a long time. He only has 9 open play goals in the last 2 years, the memories of him banging them in are fading fast.
Baffling some people talk about him like he's Lewandowski-incarnate. The lad has hit double figures twice in his career, otherwise is good for about 8 goals a season. An ok striker for a mid-table side, but wouldn't start for any of the top clubs.

Simply not true.

The worlds greatest manager built his side around him.

Hes an elite Striker.

Yeah, I don’t even mean it as a criticism, just a fact. I think some people are banking on him coming back and scoring 10 goals or something like that but it’s a long time now since he had that sort of run, for whatever reasons.

'Elite' PAHAHA! Jesus wept!

Elite strikers are the likes of Haaland or Kane or Benzema or Mbappe or Lewandowski - players who get into any team in the world, and you can bank on getting 25-30 goals a year from, season in season out, not a limited 25 year old who has only gotten into double figures twice and averages a goal almost every 4 games.

The 'worlds greatest manager' strangely never took him to an elite club, but it's absolutely true he would not be a starter for the likes of City or Arsenal or Spurs or the RS etc. I swear his fan club will still be living off the Carlo spell five years from now.

Very true mate, fitness and ability are two different things, yet one impacts the other.

I’ve watched back the Palace game at home were he started fit. He was the catalyst, the difference between us winning that game or drawing or loosing.

Hopefully we have got him right over this six weeks.

It's sort of true, but not necessarily in a positive way.

He's important to us simply because there are very few players capable of scoring more than a handful of goals each in this side, so his importance is really a testament to the flat-out negligence of the club to recruit goal scorers. Dominic Calvert-Lewin is a decent forward with some good attributes, but he's hardly prolific or banging in winners every week like a Benzema or Salah or Kane.

His value is by default considering the only other options are one-goal Maupay and the kid Cannon whose played 5 minutes of football. Palace goal aside not sure I'd call Dominic Calvert-Lewin a game changer or difference maker as he doesn't do it week in week out, he's just the best option of the small low quality pool we have to pick from (when fit enough to play of course).

Our season rides on us getting at least 2 quality attacking players in January. If we can do that and if they can get 10 goals a piece in the second half of the season, then Dominic Calvert-Lewin becomes less and less relevant. We cannot rely on a perma-injured, low scoring striker and expect to skip along to mid-table comfort.

Personally think he’s massive to the team, not just in terms of goal scoring. Even then when it comes to our team, in the land of the blind the man with one eye is king, so for our team his huge.

Full tilt he’s a 10-15 goal a season player, which is goldust in this leauge.

TBF, I think you've said in the past you'd rather have Calvert-Lewin than Mitrovic.

I admire that clueless loyalty.
And in the past that might have been true.

But after 2 years of injury there are many Strikers I would rather have now.

His talent isnt in doubt for me, not a shred of doubt, but even his biggest fans, of which I am 1, can not ignore the last 2 years.

But we have Maupay now.

LOL

Dele Alli turned that game.

It's fair to say that if we'd had to rely on DCL rather than Richarlison we'd now be about 23 games into our Championship season.

It's time to put Everton first and not the feelings of some pampered millionaire footballer who really doesn't give a flying one about Everton at the end of the day.

At home this season mate.

Well, he scored. That's always a help. One goal in the first half of the season for the club's 'top' striker.

It's not hard to see what's going wrong here is it?

If we get a forward in this window who scores 8/9 goals people will soon forget about Calvert-Lewin.

Nah mate, he was the catalyst for that result when you break down the phases, I actually did at the time in the link below and utterly convinced we are drawing or loosing that game with him. It wasn’t scoring it was his overall play and how it enabled the team.

I agree to an extent, the club have a decision make. Ability is beyond question, imo, but can we hang our future hopes on his fitness?? We are all concerned about that and it’s a valid question with real world consequences.

Its a real soul searcher fir the club, because the hardest thing in football in the PL is to buy a top back up striker, loads of clubs are years at it, because if your good enough - you want to play, while clubs will want you so why sit on the bench. Essentially looking for back up you are coming home with the Maupay of the world, will that be good enough….

Elsewise you are dropping 30-50 mill on a new player….someone like say Tammy Abraham for example.

As I said earlier there is a difference between ability and fitness and that is the soulsearher for the club this window as it will have real world consequences, was bananas selling Richarlison really.

Fit though DCL is a game changer, without doubt. Can we rely on his fitness, I’m as concerned as everyone else.
