And therein is the problem: FL talks so highly of him, praises his quality and says how fully behind him he is, it's basically making clear that he is automatic first choice and anyone else is just filling in when he's not available. Unless it's just lip service in the media (which I doubt) it was a major rookie mistake to put all the eggs in the Dominic Calvert-Lewin basket. A January replacement is absolute priority.

If he continues to think DCL will be ready in a few weeks / few months then that will be the death knell. We have to move on and look forward without DCL hogging FL's mindset as DCL has proven unreliable due to injury and getting up to speed

Yeah you'd like to think so, but I get the impression DCL is the hill Lampard might chose to die on. If a first choice striker isn't brought in (not just another backup forward) it will surely cost him his job before the season's end.

The trouble with Dominic Calvert-Lewin is his ability to stay fit, not his goals per min ratio over the last 3 years
