You’re right, need to give him a proper chance. He may not be good enough but it’s too early to write him off!!?
On the other hand Maupay has had enough chances..

Simms won’t spend much of his career in the Prem.

To be fair to Maupay, we haven’t played him off another striker, or wide in a fluid front 3. Or in a side that moves the ball on the floor quickly. We’ve let him down as much as the other way around.

On one hand - we have, you're right.
On the other hand - it's not about the chances or anything, some of the shots and general touches on the ball he's had are some of the worst I've seen by a seasoned professional footballer. For every West Ham-like shot (which, to be fair, is exactly one as he's had no other) he seems to have had as many that are just SO wayward that it's funny. If he had quality those would be at least somewhat dangerous - those shots go out for a throw in like lol

It has to be said I don't think he's missed one quality chance or even a chance really at all apart from the first derby. We just don't get him the ball in dangerous areas but he also goes stupidly wandering.

He was a dreadful buy because he wasn't the right fit.

As I mentioned a few days ago though, there's people who actually advise Everton (scouts) who think he was a good fit. Same goes for McNeil. And that's the worry.

Would love to understand the thought process.

I’ve recently become very loosely acquainted with a UK based full time scout who spent years at a London PL club but switched to a midlands PL club a couple of years ago.

Haven’t learned much about what he does, as doesn’t seem particularly obsessed with footy. I would say he actual does bugger all and watches less footy than most people on this forum. Certainly isn’t the detail expert with matrix style player stats scrolling in front of his eyes 24 hours a day. Seems a lazy sod, and doesn’t have any real affinity for any of the clubs he’s been employed by.

Seems just a job like any other to him, not a vocation/obsession. And yet has built a career being employed and paid directly by PL teams, not sending freelance reports in speculatively. I’m sure there will be proper dedicated beasts, but looks like the Wild West if he is anything to go by.

We need to plan for him being unavailable and build a system designed for other players. When he is available we need to see it as a bonus. Even 20 mins off the bench is helpful.

We cannot play a system designed for Dominic Calvert-Lewin when he is not available.

Also, if we keep bringing him back in, when he`s still carrying an injury / injuries and hoping for the best, eventually, he`ll end up with another big injury.

I do find it fairly funny (or else I'd cry) that we're not even looking for Cavlert Lewin to come back so he can get 15 goals or anything like that, it's purely just because we need literally anyone up front that can hold up the ball so the rest of the team can function. It would've been genuinely pathetic from the club but there's literally lads in League One that could do that who we could've got in January and we'd look miles better.

We literally just need a 6ft+ lump up top to wallop the ball at so that we can move up the pitch, I genuinely think that we could use Keane or Begovic in the role if we had to. The fact that we're all sat here in unison moaning about it is hilarious because literally anyone that's seen a game of football before can see the issue, except our board who refused to get a striker in with this profile at least 2 windows in a row, if not 4.

Simms isn't the problem, Maupay isn't the problem, Calvert Lewin isn't really the problem except that he's always injured and Dyche can only do so much with what he has. All finger pointing should be at the board and them alone, even Thelwell has clearly had us linked with loads of these big lad strikers, the club hasn't taken him up on a single one though so it's not his fault either.

Presser is today init for Saturday? Should get some further news on if he's fit for Saturday or not, not really seen anything to suggest it's longer term than just the Derby.
