2022/23 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Having him running and jumping for balls in the opposition half denies them space, in that because their defence has to be wary of his pace and aerial ability the longer ball or channel ball has to be compensated for.
When he doesn't play, that threat disappears and the opposition defence can squeeze up the field, which means our then limited attack is further limited because the midfield is reduced in space as their defender is looking for the forward pass and the midfield is their shield. Our midfield then has to negate theirs and we end up chasing the ball and covering the short easier passes. To many games this and last season we've seen the diagonal ball against our fullbacks be the go to option to turn us around and or start the break.
We've been severely hampered with no like for like option, Simms doesn't appear mobile enough and Maupay is not that type of striker. It was very poor recruiting to leave us so light up top.

Says he isn't top 8 level exactly 8 words after saying that the current 3rd place team would probably buy him.

This is why we can't have nice things.

Newcastle may buy him as they have a lot of money and probably the only top 8 team that can take a risk on him.

his injury record and his finishing stops him getting a top move.

he was great last night though.

Think we need to look at the job Newcastle have done with Callum Wilson as a blueprint for how to deal with Calvert Lewin.
He's not been relied on and been able to either come off the bench for Isak or be replaced by Isak which has took the strain off Wilson and he's having one of his most profitable seasons.

The caveat is we wont be able to go and get a £70m centre forward to help Dom with the workload, but someone like Gyokeres would be perfect.

How can you say Newcastle will buy him and then say he isn’t a top 8 player lol they’re literally 3rd and both of their current strikers are better than him.

they are one of the only teams that can afford to pay that much for a back up striker.

An England international? is he really though. he Didn't play a game when selected. Muppet!

he is probably 3-4 choice now.

Are you saying he's never played for England here? Might want to check that.

If you're talking about the last tournament he went to then I am completely shocked he hasn't usurped Harry Kane...

I’ve been critical of DCL, questioning his commitment and desire… not to mention his dress sense!

But give him his dues, he’s played very well the last couple of games and made a real difference.

He’s a likeable chap who seems fairly grounded too which is nice.

Looked sharp and hungry again but most importantly he doesn't look like he's playing with the fear of injury recurrences like he seemed to do on previous returns. His recovery and rehabilitation was frustrating but looks like it was worth waiting for now.
So not rushing him back was proved right?
Got to give Dyche, the medical team and Calvert-Lewin credit there

Hardly a regular is he.

if we go down, we will sell him but i dont think it would do him any harm having a season in the Cahmpionship.
