2022/23 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

I think there's little chance of us getting two new forwards in while the idea at the club is still that he's going to shake off injuries...despite two whole seasons of evidence to the contrary.

The only real solution for us would be to put him on the transfer list and hope a club took a chance, or to simply come to an agreement with the player and buy out the rest of the contract he has and cut our losses.

If they're that thick, then sack Thelwell and Dyche tomorrow.

Without doubt they'll be planning to be competitive without Calvert-Lewin.

We're a dysfunctional club with no hierarchy and no one capable of making decisions and with little resources to bring in two good replacements. That's probably the reason DCL will limp on into next season.

We might just get away with it if that sole new forward has a very good season.

You're doing it yourself now.

No, we need two actual forwards - two actual 'number 9s'.

Don't care how we do it, who we sell... we can't have another season of lashing the likes of Gordon/Gray upfront and expecting to stay up.

You can see that happening at this club in the summer?

I'd be staggered.

The club releasing DCL videos training suggests they see him as one of our two forwards.

I want him fit and playing as we can’t afford anyone as good as a fit Dom (if that exists).

But the fact he is even at the club could make it difficult to sign new strikers capable of starting. Say Gyokeres or someone at that level who would be taking a big step up (and I believe would be adequate for us and a crowd favourite due to the way he plays) gets offers from 3 teams around us, they would be gambling on Dom being injured. If Dom miraculously stays fit, they are making cameos until fixtures get congested in winter. Equivalent of Richy daftly going to Spurs when they have Kane, Son and Kulesevski. Wasted a season. And if they are just coming for the pay rise we don’t want that sort anyway.

Conundrum.

If they didn't think they needed a forward last summer, then who knows if they will have a different opinion this year.

Just because something is really obvious to all of us doesn't mean it will be obvious to those within the club. Time will tell I guess.

I'd happily see us sign 2 forwards and no one else, than prioritise other positions, but I doubt the club see it that way.

DCL should be the no.2/no.3 striker next year, so the pressure can be taken off him, and so we aren't an injury away from a crisis. Good teams have multiple goalscorers and don't rely on a single player.
