Selling DCL for a small fee, because that is all you will get, makes no sense.

We need to stop being totally reliant on him by having other strikers and this will allow the manager to manage DCL more efficiently and ironically this will mean we will probably get him to play more games.

A top class player when fit.

Agreed, we may as well use him as a squad option than sell for a few million, because he can't be replaced for a few million.

But if someone was to offer something over £10m for him, then we would have a real decision to make.

Or he’s just showing his regime off to prove he’s trying to get over it
That'll convince no one.

It's a fairly obvious ploy to make him look relevant to Everton. He isn't. Two seasons of mostly sitting on the bench cant be forgotten. Only his most fervent admirers still believe he'll hand us enough goals to get us out of trouble.

You won't find a single Everton fan on the planet that doesn't think we need 1-2 strikers this window.

Many/most would accept a new forward and retain DCL.

That player's PR team have been amazing. They;'ve persuaded a lot of people to believe a washed up PL forward is still worth hanging onto.

No PL team with any ambition to have a decent season retains Calvert-Lewin. The fact that we will tells you just how broken we are as a club.

Or people just don't believe the club will sign 2 strikers. If we only sign 1 he has to stay.

It's simple PR though and i dont think it's anything devious - it's spin and branding - he's just showing us that he's working really hard to regain fitness. I know we can't depend on him, just saying, he's doing the best he can to prove to us, Everton and any potential buyers that it's not over for him.
I think we'll retain him because we have no choice!

You can see that happening at this club in the summer?

I'd be staggered.

The club releasing DCL videos training suggests they see him as one of our two forwards.

I'd be staggered if it didn't happen. But then, I was pulling my hair our last summer, never mind January.

Last summer I think Thelwell (and most naive blues, to be fair. Most rated the summer window highly) figured defence and midfield was a priority. They were wrong. There's no illusion anymore.

It's DCL/his partners who are sharing the videos. Pretty common for players to be "look im working even when off" on their social.

If they didn't think they needed a forward last summer, then who knows if they will have a different opinion this year.

Just because something is really obvious to all of us doesn't mean it will be obvious to those within the club. Time will tell I guess.

I'd happily see us sign 2 forwards and no one else, than prioritise other positions, but I doubt the club see it that way.

DCL should be the no.2/no.3 striker next year, so the pressure can be taken off him, and so we aren't an injury away from a crisis. Good teams have multiple goalscorers and don't rely on a single player.

No chance mate - the clubs biggest priority this summer is signing forwards and there's no chance on gods earth they don't know it.

We also need a left back.

Add a focal point/goals and an adequate left back who can offer something going forward to this team and we stay up. You then build again.

Quite a few decent points in this thread:

1. He's not gonna get a stellar fee because of his unreliable fitness
2. He'd cost more to replace
3. He's semi-decent when fit and club / fans etc mostly behind him

If we add another decent machine alongside him, such that he can play 20-25 games a season, with 10+ goals, he's worth keeping. I'd let Maupay go and hope that one of Cannon or Simms come through, but we need AT LEAST one more forward signing.

Totally get the frustration towards him though and he CANNOT be viewed as our main threat up front. Whilst he's proved his desire and ability over the period of support given to him by EFC (not to mention that header vs Palace), over such a long period it's inevitably flagged the likelihood of his future absence from the team. Keep, but he's a no.2 or even 3 option 30-60 mins a week and get his match count up.

It seems extremely obvious, but I want to see some action and players in the door before week 1. We can't enter another season without an available centre forward.

If we need a sale before we can get the players we need, then get on with it.

To me its the calibre of striker we need to sign and the clubs mindset around that - its easy to sign a Kone, Valencia, Rondon or Maupay and say to yourself at worst they'll give us an option for 15 games. Well the worst happened and how we stayed up without a centre forward is actually beyond me - it was a miracle, [probably our most miraculous escape. We cant sign a Beta striker again - it doesn't work because we will need to rely on them.

We need not to sign a b striker as listed above - we need someone with aspirations to play in the PL whether that be the championship, overseas or someone not getting a game further up the food chain in the PL and compete to be the top striker at the club - we aren't signing some one already established and getting regular PL games.

One no 9 and one wide forward.
