You see that’s where I personally think a lot of the hate for him stems from, not the goal drought, injuries or off field stuff but the fact he got shunted into the spotlight after Lukaku was sold because signing 3 number 10s was a bigger priority than signing a striker
I agree. He would have been a good supporting striker, but the club were smart arses.

I blame our manager for caveman tactics. I blame DCL for missing two more chances and not scoring in almost 4 months. They're not mutually exclusive.
You never liked him when he was scoring you just disappeared- look a striker needs confidence & he maybe should have slotted a few - but I agree caveman tactics do not suit him his confidence is poor in that display in the first half is as poor as I have ever seen from the whole team - pickford our playmaker says it all - Hoof balls

Stop posting tosh yes he missed 2 chances in a team that plays ale house football ATM
He is getting 2 chances per game on average and scoring 1 in 14 of those, that's not tosh just simple facts, and he backed up the stats again tonight with another 2 good chances neither of which he hit the target with.
He's consistently poor atm and a blind man can see that.
Actually thought he done better 2nd half after we brought Onana on and stopped hammering long aimless balls to him, Garner shouldve done better with his knock down. But him and Beto both miscontrolling the ball and breaking down one of our rare attacks on the deck sums him up.. completely void of any confidence and composure in and around the box.
Needs taken out of the starting team for at least 1/2 games, Beto is worse though so means our fans will give him more leeway and continue to favour him starting even though it's doing the lad no good.

Usually I'd say yes. We have an Everton number 9 about to go 20 games without a goal.

But I don't think Beto or Chermiti do any better - which says a lot.

Even if they got 2 or 3 goals in that time - if you're playing direct/long ball - you need a player who'll make it stick. Beto can't do that - I don't know why we signed him for the fee we did. I assumed he'd be of Calvert-Lewin's mould, he isn't. He needs balls played behind the backline and we haven't got that.

Tbf, you have defended him admirably, and I too felt it was just confidence and the rest of his game is fine. But kicking or heading a ball consistently wide of a goal, which is actually quite large, is a problem. I wouldn’t mind if goalkeepers are producing worldies to keep out, but mostly they don’t even have to bother. Something isn’t right in the lads head and the coaching appears to have no effect. I’ve no idea what it is but in our position we cannot keep doing the same failing thing over and over again…he needs dropping……

Thought was good hold up play but honestly wtf is with him in the box you have to be scoring these chances.
Yeah, he tried to get the ball everywhere and won most of the heading duels. I don't blame him too much on this point, since you need the support of the midfield, which he often didn't have, when u work with long balls on your strikers. He was isolated a lot, but his main target is to finish the ball, and this has been insufficient since the West Ham game. Having missed the 4th most big chances in the league, and a reason why we struggle a lot to score from open play.

Joe, Ive literally complimented him on several occasions and even a month ago said I’d stick with him despite the beto shouts. It’s just not working though is it?

& missed just like DCL .....

Let's face it, if DCL at Arsenal would have a field day not in that EFC set up which is just hoof ball - one player in the box ....

You have to earn the right to play in “the Arsenal set up “ by being good enough for them to want to sign you .

Why would a team with aspirations of winning the league want a striker that can only score sitters from 3 yards out ?
