2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

He should have scored two today someone needs to coach him on one on one's- the rest of the game today he led the line very well ,but has to score those chances those goals would have justified a 4- 0 away win - he needs a goal - the rest of his game as a lone striker is very good ...
Not for me. A striker doesn’t need coaching at 1 on 1’s. That should be their bread and butter, the reason they are a striker for a premier league club. Refinement? Fine. But coaching? It should be natural and for DCL it just isn’t. He offers us something but I’d much rather see a guy who can slot. Mitrovic was the guy I think we should have got, similar to DCL but far bigger snide and threat. As ever DCL put in a shift though so I’ll raise a glass to that🍻

Fortunately his misses did not affect the result -we have no one as yet to lead the line.
He was a constant thorn at their centre backs -I agree he has to start scoring asp

I don't understand how a striker can be so poor in 1v1 situations. He's lucky we were winning 2-0 today but he's missed a handful of them already this season which is quite shocking for a stiker on his supposed level. If he scored them we would be sitting comfortably.
All strikers rely on confidence in front of goal and bar that season under Carlo, I don’t think DCL has ever had any confidence in front of goal. He’s certainly not a natural finisher.

I thought he played really well up top today with his all round game but his finishing , particularly 1v1 it’s fair to say leaves a lot to be desired . Like most of us I have zero confidence he’ll take a chance when he’s clean through and it’s incredibly frustrating .

However I’ll say again I thought he was a huge part of of our win .

Played very well, bar the finishing, and unfortunately that's the #1 part of his job. Really want him to start banging them in, just as I want every Everton player to play their very best. Not looking great for him though.

TBF the worse miss of the match was Ipswich clear row Z shot in the first 5 minutes that was a sitter - if that had gone in would have been a totally different game for us ...

Played a good role today i.e. hold up play , lay offs , runs making space etc..
However his finishing is absolutely woeful. I think that it must be a combination of it not being a natural instinct , and a lack of confidence.
Not sure it can be coached into him at his age , and stage of his career. Don't know what the answer is .

What is the general consensus on top 5 attributes, in order, that Dyche wants from his strikers?
I’ll go first
1) get on the end of launches
2) win free kicks in opposition 1/2
3) defend high ball set pieces
4) link up play
5) score goals

I suspect Dyche is the principle reason DCL isn’t signing a contract.
Doesn’t excuse his failure in todays 1:1 chances like but still, can excuse him being a bit rusty in front of goal when the chances come so rarely imho.

The answer is to move on and we should have done a long time ago.

Should have got a hat-trick today. At least he's forcing saves, and not ballooning chances over the bar. He's still the best forward we have to get the ball up the pitch, just a shame about the finishing.
