2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

One of the strangest players in the league.

He's a 8/10 striker for the kind of all around play you want from a modern lone striker. Wins headers, good hold up play.

Horrific finisher. 2/10 in that department. Not even sure he's Championship standard in this regard

I'd actually say his hold play is more like a striker from the 90s. Usually consists of him awkwardly controlling a ball and passing it back to where it came from.

These days you want a bit more from a player up top. His link up play/ability to create something out of nothing is non-existent.

It's almost like he was taught that from someone from the 90s.....

Everton play better and win more games when he plays.

We don't win anywhere near enough games mate that he's been a part of, so it's a toss of a coin whether we would have won the same with someone else up top. His stats since last season has him at about 1 goal every 4 games which is single figures for a season. You can't have your main man scoring 9 goals or less and expect to be winning matches.

When he's bang at it, he's a handful for any defender. The last time he really bullied his centre half was the rs at home and I'd say his best performance this season was Ipswoch away though he missed a glut of gilt edged chances. Apart from that, he's been marked out of most games and offered little to nothing (I'd say Villa away was another where he went to battle with their defenders but again he missed a glut of gilt edged chances)

Do you think you would feel the same if we had a prime Shearer / Drogba / Henry / Cantona ?

There will be a far more effective player out there who we could sign...or someone else in the squad / youth to perform better.

You would hope to thing there is and that we could find them and get them in the team. From now till June we should be looking for that player from who we have at the club, and having DCL as backup if we get stuck. At least then we would know that CF would be the priority signing in the summer. As it stands we look to be seeing thing out with DCL starting and every week that goes by I think its more of a mistake.

Carlton Cole level striker.
Pretty much, yeah.
DCL is a slightly better goal scorer in the PL, worse at getting assists though.
DCL gets a goal every 269 minutes. Carlton Cole got a goal every 303 minutes.
DCL gets an assist every 1003 minutes, CC got one every 672 minutes.
Combined, DCL gets a goal involvements every 212 minutes whereas Cole managed it every 209 minutes.

I would say he is indirectly responsible for our poor finishes year on. He should be scoring more goals....Yes we all agree with that. If he did then would we be languishing by the bottom? That is the question. We are in search of a striker that is fairly reliable in front of goal, we are in search of a striker that can also assist. DCL is neither of these and we wonder why we are propping the table up.
