2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

….players running down their contracts play for their own interest and lose their edge when the a game really matters. I wouldn’t be surprised if he knows exactly where he’s going next summer. He’s not the only one in contract limbo (players, manager, DoF).

Problem is we have no real alternatives. Hopefully Broja can fill the void, I know there are plenty who think Chermiti will be the real deal even though he’s shown nothing in his cameo’s so far. We really need one of those two to make a real impact.

8 games without a goal this season, 21 game run last season without a goal. It's all well and good saying he's the best we have but he isn't affecting results at all.

Beto is awful a lot of things, but one thing he does have is a little bit of movement off the shoulder of his man. Twice in the space of 5 minutes he found space and fashioned up a couple of chances (the header where he got in front of his man and ballooned it over and then the shot where he rolled his man and skied it into the street end). The finishes were dreadful but the movement was good. He also lost his marker to get the shot in that Pinnock blocked. In all 3 of these moments DCL was literally just standing there. Beto isn't the problem playing in a 2. It's Calvert Lewin who is the issue. He was dreadful whenever he was put alongside Richarlison, hence it would be Richarlison doing all the donkey work and all the assists.

Broja I'd be shocked if he's the answer, he's still around 5-6 weeks away from being up and running and Chermiti is further behind him.

That leaves either an uninterested DCL in the side whilst still not picking up points so seems pretty pointless, or give Beto a run and you have him making runs off the shoulder and see what he can do given a 5 game period.

Ive defended him previously, but I just cant defend him any more.

He wont have had to wash his kit for the last 4/5 games. He doesnt do anything. Fella behind me yesterday, said that he reminds him of the teenager from Harry Enfield.

He needs binning. Offers absolutely nothing. You would think he would be either trying to win a new contract from us, or put himself in the shop window for a decent offer from another team.

I can only think maybe he has agreed to join someone else, and hes playing to not get injured.

I said this yesterday to my mate.

Id rather have a forward who is actually getting in to a position to miss, than not getting into a position to begin with.

DCL has got himself into plenty of positions to be slotting, but looks completely frazzled in the head and incapable of making clear decisions. I think that Ipswich away game where he really should have had 3 goals and walked away with nothing was the game breaker. He looks incapable of scoring a 1v1 chance. Even yesterday when he ran through (though it was a tight angle and not really a proper 1v1) I doubt anyone thought he'd score.

Was a strong advocate for him getting a new contract even if only to realise a sale next season, but his head is completely gone.
I think the uncertainty about his future or the knowledge he has that he’s got something lined up is too much pressure for him.
Really needs selling if only for 2-3 mill in Jan (if possible).
He’s offering nothing that we can’t get from Beto, or the other pair once they’re fit.
He’s barely offering more than Chermiti now and he’s been injured for months.

If you ever pointed out that his purple patch of goals were all tap ins , you would be lambasted by people telling you that all goals count the same etc.

They were absolutely blind to the point, which was ‘what happens when we stop creating tap ins?’. The answer, as we’ve seen, is he goes absolutely months without a goal.

The lad is just not a natural striker.
