2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

We obviously don’t create many clear cut chances, but he is very hard to make chances for. Also Never there for a tap in, doesn’t get his shoulder in front of the defender when we have the ball wide. Seen as completely fundamental to the way we play for a few years, without scoring or getting assists. Bizarre, and not all his fault.

I like him generally, but it’s all gone very sour.

When he does leave...

Will he be remembered for his purple patch under Carlo or for the rest of what he's shown in blue?
Depends what camp you fall in, if you liked him then his general performances prior to his initial injury and the two Derby headers, if you hate him then it’ll be the fact he’s not Lukaku, the injuries, the off field stuff, the 20+ games without a goal last year and the last year with his contract situation

Always reluctant to get on his back under this dinosaur, really do think now he doesn't look arsed ready to bail... Newcastle awaits imo ... which makes it worse ffs

He's in his 9th season so it seems only fair to look at his time over the entirety of it. 2 seasons under Carlo he had a decent goal return in partly the empty stadium era. The other 7 seasons, not much to write home about. 56 league goals (70 career total) over 8-and-a-third seasons is a poor return.

An average at best striker, will score 1/10 attempts and not trouble the net with the other 9/10, probably wouldn't be a starter for most teams in the Prem, and should have really been moved on years ago if a half-dozen goals a year is all you're going to get from him.

We got our money worth for the £1.5m fee paid years ago and he's had a career as a Premier League player making millions. No bad end of the deal. Once he's left, he'll be just another average ex-player you never think about, never care about, and shouldn't be missed in the team if we recruit well.

Can you get a minus on xg ?
You can get negative expected Xg yes, and based on the stats DCL is the worst striker in the league since the start of last season. Last season he scored 6 less goals then the shot data suggests he should have.

Even this season he has an expected goals figure if 3.8 and has scored two, which again is the worst conversation rate this season. Which if you look at players with similar Xg, Delap has had a Xg of 3.6 and has scored 6 even Mateta who is having a poor season has had an Xg of 3.3 and scored 3.

He has had enough chances, he needs benching.

I'm not saying Beto is better; but christ he doesn't half frustrate the life out of you.

Ancelotti simplified his game, get the ball in box, let him do his thing.

He's not great at holding it up, he strays offside. We've should have sold him and taken something because he'll be a handful elsewhere.

But we don't play anywhere near his strengths.
