2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Dean Ashton was a way superior striker to DCL.
Yes for £1 million & Moyes blew £6 million on James Beattie he managed one pen in one season - while Vaughn & Victor were scoring for fun in the under 23s....
Dean Aston at Crewe had just run our defence ragged in an FA Cup tie, too .... plus our team was better then too - Cahill & Arteta in the engine room ...

Seeing being linked with a move to Milan on a free, I honestly couldn’t care less what happens with him.

Probably the worst outcome now is him taking a 4 year 130k a week contract here. He’s nowhere near the level for that sort of long term financial commitment and I’d rather move on even if he did have a change of heart.

He’s had one purple patch in his career, a short run of goals in a team set up for him by the best manager in the world. That’s not good enough to make him our highest earner and the future of our number 9 position.

Would be insanity to offer him £130k per week. He is regressing season after season so it would be ridiculous

You do start to think where are you going to go or even where do you think you're good enough to go. Has his agent been in his ear telling him the elite of Europe will be falling over themselves to get him on a free.
Not gona lie i wouldnt take him even on a free. Fair play if he wants to go try his luck elsewhere but clubs offering him a long term bumper deal contract just coz he's available i think he might find will be few and far between. What is the attraction for any club? I dont see it.

Get £5mil for him in January and use that to pay off the ginger fossil in the dugout.

That’s about the only positive impression DCL can still make at the club, because he certainly is capable of making one on the pitch.

It would, and I’d implode. But can see why he would ask for it, and why it would be considered. Same reason as a free agent he could command a big salary at Milan, he could command one to stay here.

Giving him £130k a week for 4 years is still a few million cheaper (over the 4 year term) than getting another risky £50k a week striker for £20million purchase price. Given how abysmal we are at finding those £20m forwards on low salaries, if Dom still looked arsed, it would definitely be worth weighing up the two options. Particularly with a new manager and style of play, rather than getting another Beto/Niasse.

Its the demeanor and missed chances that clinch it though. Best for all to walk away, even if it does make some financial sense to overpay him to stay.

That would only cost us 27 million, and would be criminal to do so.
