2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Always stuck up for him
But think it's better for both Everton and him we part ways.
Don't think being stood up front on his own is doing him any good.
His lack of goals isn't doing us any good.
So hopefully he gets a tranfer soon.
He just looks fed up with Dyches style of football & wants away - his body language in certain games tells you that - 20 yards from any support & a hoof ball coming his way - he's had enough as most of the fans have - v 10 men Beto should have joined him in the 2nd half - our 3 midfielders on Saturday - combined age of over 100 years old - Before the substitutions my head was dizzy on who was playing where - swapping positions on the wings - up front - down the middle etc to support DCL etc - Plus again only for Pickford he saved us a point yet again .....our left back is inept & had the best only chance in the 2nd half - our set pieces have been sussed out - we can't score the oldest slowest team in the Prem - put Beto in & see how he fares, but we have a recurring problem ..... no youth anyone half decent out on loan .....

I'm not saying Beto is better; but christ he doesn't half frustrate the life out of you.

Ancelotti simplified his game, get the ball in box, let him do his thing.

He's not great at holding it up, he strays offside. We've should have sold him and taken something because he'll be a handful elsewhere.

But we don't play anywhere near his strengths.

Its hard to judge that. As someone posted yest. The only time he's ever gone on any scoring run is in that weird empty stadium almost like closed door friendly games time. And even then the goals dried up after new year. Also the second digne walked out the door so did a lot of his crosses into the box.
Strengths? I think he's only got one. He's ok attacking balls in the air if the delivery is decent. That doesnt warrant building a team around him like is very bizarrely suggested in this thread at times.
The failure is completely with this club to replace a striker with an absolutely atrocious scoring record for the past 4 and a half years. I honestly dont think another club in world football wouldnt have replaced him a long time ago.

….that might be true to a certain extent but it’s conjecture he’s not happy with the playing style.

I suspect it’s lots to do with him wanting a change and being in a good contract situation to move on a lucrative Bosman. He certainly seems to be playing in 2nd gear, we have so many personnel in contract limbo it’s bound to have an impact when the going gets tough.

You can get negative expected Xg yes, and based on the stats DCL is the worst striker in the league since the start of last season. Last season he scored 6 less goals then the shot data suggests he should have.

Even this season he has an expected goals figure if 3.8 and has scored two, which again is the worst conversation rate this season. Which if you look at players with similar Xg, Delap has had a Xg of 3.6 and has scored 6 even Mateta who is having a poor season has had an Xg of 3.3 and scored 3.

He has had enough chances, he needs benching.

Delap didnt look much to me when he came through for City (im sure i saw his debut) and then sent out on loan without dramatic results.

Could see against us that the energy levels were there and his goal return for a team like Ipswich is impressive.

£20mil McKenna signed him for in the summer. Good value.

What's the excuse? Salah hasn't been offered a new contract either yet he has 10 goals and 6 assists in 12 games.
Yeah, but we all know he's clueless and shjte
and passed it soon, he gets needlessly booked so the betting scammers can have an easy goal and booking double bet, why else would any professional do it ?

He also has a Slysix ref on his side.

For all Dom's weaknesses his strength at holding it up has cursed him to a thankless role under Dyche

I like him & Ferguson at Brighton as top young no 9s again I reiterate in our side with our midfield & wingers & lack of overlapping fullbacks they may struggle in our slow build up & hoof ball!

We need a better manager + top coaching & a lot of money to bring in these types of players.

We obviously don’t create many clear cut chances, but he is very hard to make chances for. Also Never there for a tap in, doesn’t get his shoulder in front of the defender when we have the ball wide. Seen as completely fundamental to the way we play for a few years, without scoring or getting assists. Bizarre, and not all his fault.

I like him generally, but it’s all gone very sour.
This has always been his issue. I remember butting heads on here years ago with posters who insisted that we couldn't judge his goalscoring record at the time because he was too young/not being used correctly/not getting the service etc and just repeating the same thing over and over - he just doesn't look like a goalscorer, he doesn't do the things that good goalscorers do. 8 or 9 years later that's still the case, although there was a 2 month period in that 8 years when I thought he was going to make me eat my words to be fair.

Beto is extremely limited but it's not a coincidence that he continually manages to get opportunities when DCL doesn't, he actually looks for them.
