2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Absolutely no idea what he does well
He gets us up the pitch on many occasions when it's set up to be full of defensive, he is just isolated constantly because of we are set up, he has Doucoure there for his knock downs which isn't ideal because he can't do much with the ball.

Dom was at his best as a poacher he's essentially just a run down the line get a freekick or a throw in merchant or win a header and hope to relieve pressure on the defense center forward. The system is the issue because once he does these things, nothing is likely to even come of it.

However it doesn't help his case when he can't finish anything nowadays, he always goes low to the keepers sides and the keepers are well onto him now, he never lifts it over for some reason and mixes it up, he's an unconfident striker playing in an awful attacking system.

Thought he was better against City. Used his head more and waited for support.

But he also did what he usually does and tries to out pace a CB rather than just hold it up, lay it off, then head into the box. Can't remember a time he ever pulled that off.

Honestly it's a sad state of affairs when he has the ball and I just say 'get your foul Dom' since we all know he hasn't got the pace to get away from anybody and even if he does he's not going to finish his chance regardless.

Definitely an argument to be made that we never would have struggled as much if he could be relied on to score more than 4 goals a season.

Don't really like the idea that a single goal saved the season. Would it be fair to chase him over a single miss costing the season if we had gone down by a point instead of staying up by one? I'm sure there's loads of those.

Either way for me, if we're down in the relegation zone then its likely because our striker is as terrible at footy as the rest of the team.
And what about the man who took that brilliant free kick? Bought for 1.5M and sold for about six times that amount!

Yeah. It's like when he went to try and out run Akanji who then just took the ball off him. I'm all for backing your ability but he never beats a CB for pace so take it wide, wait for support, pull defenders away...then lay it off.

He does all the hard work then kinda doesn't know what to do after it or more times than not, make the wrong decisions.

Different type of player but I always remember Pienaar being the absolute king of winning a foul. Shield the ball, feel contact in the back, fall over. Dom should be doing that more.

Thats cos hes literally playing at 40% currently.

Thought he grew into the game yesterday. But also thought we looked far more dangerous with Broja.

Whether he can be as impactful from a start or
nit remains to be seen.
This is what I don’t get? How did we look more dangerous?

The issue is, subs happen deep into a game when there is more room in final third. If Dyche wasn’t total crap, he would have been brave and kept dcl on and also put Broja on.

They are not like for like players. DCL and Richy could play together. I think Broja and DCL also could.

It’s a fair point I thought we looked more dangerous because Broja got ahead of the play and in front of defenders at times. I thought he could also hold possession at ball at feet and more importantly retain it.

I’d also caveat it, in the sense that it could he easier as it’s fresh vs tired legs and the game has also opened up.
