2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Yes. He's scored 3 and missed 13 big chances according to premier league.com.

Interestingly, he's also the most offsided player in the entire league (27). Chris Wood 2nd (21), Isaak 3rd (17).

Is that this season?

The most offside is probably because we didn't get the ball to him quickly enough under Dyche!

I'm not getting carried away on the back of one good 90 minutes under Moyes.

I'm much more inclined to remember the absolutely dire four years we've suffered through watching him.

He scored one goal, that I'd be willing to bet he'd never pull it off again in a month of Sundays as he controlled it with his feet, and people acted like he was a completely different player. Nah, I'm not drinking that Kool aid, sorry.

He did absolutely nothing in Moyes first match vs Villa and loads were ready to see him dropped. Go back to page 450 or so and you won't be reading people falling over themselves to praise him for Moyes first match.
Everyone was awful in the Villa game. Pretty much the whole team has looked better since Moyes got here.

There are obviously no guarantees but I think if DCL was available Beto wouldn't have got a sniff. (rightly or wrongly).

I tend top give everyone a clean slate when a new manager comes in though. Most top flight players have ability, a lot of the time it depends how they fit in with a managers style of play.

So you've got one bad 90 minutes and one decent 90 minutes with a very non-typical Dom finish and goal. It's not a lot of evidence to go on and any conclusions people are drawing from it are being jumped to.

If Dom had pulled a goal out of his arse like that one against Spurs maybe more than twice in his entire time here I would maybe be willing to listen to this assertion that he would be Prime Ronaldo under Moyes. Let's face it, it was awfully flukey and he's not got a reputation for pulling goals like that out of his backside. That shouldn't be controversial to say.

No, I just don't see the case for believing he was going to look anything different from what he had done for the past four years. He had the odd decent match in those years too, broken clocks and all that.

He's going.

The reality for him, he needed time with Moyes to have a Beto-esque resurgence, but whereas for Beto it proved to people he's somewhat capable, for DCL it would have probably showed himself he's capable of playing higher.

I dont knock it btw, I want my players to be ambitious and want to play higher. Its for us as a club now, to make signings which mean those players can do that with us.

Weirdly, I am cautiously optimistic we will.

Im very conflicted, I think hes a great player, who if given the right tools would be a great asset for any club.

But large portions of this fanbase will never accept him, I feel like hes hated more than hes loved, hes been here 9 years and we dont even sing his name when he scores.

So for the above reasons, I think he should leave.

Im not going into the reasons people have, sure his long spells injured and goal droughts dont help, but as ive said, hes worked under some pretty bad managers recently.

Moyes is here now and we all expect some exciting attacking players to be bought in the Summer, so if he stays and stays injury free, then hes an asset.

In short, I agree, Beto is an option, but, I dunno, I cant see Moyes being over the moon with him.

Hes been here 9 years and in that time we have tried and tried to replace him and we simply havent managed to find anybody even close, so sure, lets roll the dice, again.
It'll be tough for you in the summer, but think of all the excitement when his new club realises they've had their pants pulled down and he's being linked with a January return on loan.

My issue with DCL, similar to other fans issue with him, is his lack of passion or desire to be a top striker. I also don't think he has any love for Everton or our fans. Beto may not be perfect, but he still shows passion and has a bond with our fans. Vaughan, Yakubu, Anichebe, Richarlison and Naismith all showed more passion for than DCL ever does. He missed 3 sitters against Villa this season, which debunks lack of service nonsense. When Broja came on at Arsenal, he showed genuine desire that you just don't get with DCL. It will be sad if he leaves in a free, hopefully we have a replacement lined up.
