2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

He was centre of the goal from about 8 yards on Wednesday, the pass came straight to him, and he smashed it over the bar.

Finishing is a big part of the problem and there is no tactical fix for that.
There is a tactical fix for that, its called finishing practice? Ideally with a striking coach which we havnt had for about 3 years cause dyche wanted his drinkin buddys in instead. And the cross was fired in like wouldnt say it was a simple finish but yeah he should of finished it

Ha ha.. fair enough mate, I assumed you had the stats to hand.

The point is that I think that Beto has probably got a better strike rate than DCL, in terms of goals per minute, since he arrived. I am happy to be corrected like.
i want beto to come good dont get me wrong, i just think he needs a actual good manager in his ear to tell him to stop throwin people about its not rocket science lol. I've wanted beto and dom playing as a two for ageessss now

Even if we get no more forwards in I hope Moyes wont feel obliged to treat him as an automatic starter.

I'd start Beto every game over Calvert-Lewin.

If Moyes starts mollycoddling this feller Calvert-Lewin and pinning his hopes on him we're staring own the barrel.

Either buy a new striker or play Beto until the end of the season.

Gianluca Vialli was on tv once talking about strikers, and he said if you have your striker running all over the pitch, trying to hold the ball up for you, and most of his work is spent outside the box, then you can't expect him to then finish every chance inside the box, as he will be fatigued from having to work too hard in general play. This is why Carlo had DCL in the box and DCL showed what he can do. dyche had him everywhere except the box. Hopefully Moyes can redress the balance.

Not saying DCL is Harland but Harland is an immense finisher but he doesn't do a lot of anything else.

Haaland is also a former Red Bull player, and is used to running for his life. In City, on the other hand, his task is to lock down and stretch the defence, and make room for individually skilled players in the space between the defense and the midfield. City are quite dominant, so they only need Haaland in front of goal.

Anyway, the problem with DCL is his positional understanding, and interpretation of space. Here he lacks a lot, and is often in the wrong space. Combined with the fact that he has never been a good finisher, and has neither the composure nor the technique in the decisive situations, he is rather useless.

His great strength has always been his physical qualities, but injuries have set him back.

But the point is that DCL is running channels and being a target man, trying to chase his own flick ons, all outside of the box. So by the time the ball is wide, he's then having to get in to the box to make sure he's there. Half the time he needn't have bothered as we don't have anyone who can cross a ball.

Whereas Harland as an example, doesn't need to do the hold up or flick ons as much, so he can afford to be clever about his movement in and around the box to create space for himself.

As previously stated there is a good chance DCL may not be good enough, but I think it's harsh to judge any striker playing in a dyche system.

To be fair I think most who are judging him are judging him on his career not just under Dyche. Because outside of his purple patch he is a below standard striker. The club desperately wanted him to be the Lukaku replacement because they got him on the cheap. His lack of goals and lack of goal contributions is horrendous and its been past the time to move on.
