He looked good at times last night and I think he will develop into a cracking forward this season for us. Can't for the life of me understand some of the negativity about him on here. We will need him this season, even if we sign another forward, unless we intend to go through the season with just two out and out strikers.

personally i think he’d benefit going out on loan, maybe to a championship team where he can play up front. He’s not a winger and another season in the Under23’s is pointless. Happy to see him come off the bench as a striking option but I’d rather see the likes of Lookman on the wings.

Not a wide a man and feel last night would have been ideal for him to play in the middle. Fear is Rooney will be accommodated in games at the expense of DC and others

Unfair to judge him when hes been played out of position as I see some positives if he got a chance in these type of games

I think he shows signs of promise but he looks like a forward and playing him on the flanks isn't doing him any favours. Personally i would have given Dowell an opportunity last night on the right, he's a better footballer, has played well in pre-season and actually offers creativity.

I thought he did well last night, won a lot in the air, got stuck in, I liked that move where he chased down a ball that was going out and slid tackled the defender to win the ball and set Rooney up. He also glides across the pitch quite effortlessly

We're looking for a hold up CF so why don't we try DCL there?? That's his game isn't it?? Being good in the air and holding the ball up on the wing is pointless.. play him central or don't play him

Looks a big strong lad. Definitely better through the middle and if we start getting more crosses in he will be very useful for us. He is tall and jumps fantastically well.

I do think having Coleman (or ideally Kenny) would benefit him. They would be in the wide spot and he could focus on going 10 yards in field and joining up with the striker.

I don't see what Ronko sees in him.

Would start Lookman over him any day of the week.
In a wide position I couldn't agree more. If he gets into the team, it has to be as a centre forward, not some wide player. That's not the fault of DCL but koeman in playing him there.

Not an easy role for him last night but he worked hard and showed himself to be mobile and able to hold the ball up quite well.

He's only fairly recently turned 20 and all this adds to his learning.
