Better than Anichebe. Discuss.

Hard to say really, because Anichebe started younger and was here longer. Anichebe's hold up play was much better, but never looked as natural a footballer as DCL. If Anichebe had learnt to put his foot through the ball equivalent to a man of his size and strength, he'd have been a whole different prospect, but he was 2nd only to Osman in powder puff shot stakes.

When he came back to Goodison with West Brom that 1st year though, he gave Rom a lesson in hold up play and strength, played really well. He was just never a prolific goalscorer but he did score some important goals.

Turning down that contract years ago turned a lot of people against him, and we played a hell of a lot of percentage football with him up top, often alone (when he wasn't put out on the wing) so he often had the same thankless task DCL has had this season.

Good reply - think Chebes was one of those players with all the ingredients but they never quite came together. If he was proper pumped for a game he was a 'mare. Kinda like Heskey. But too often was meh. Injuries really didn't help him.

I was actually being a bit flippant. They're different players in terms of style, but neither are prolific. But if Chebes can have a top flight career so can DCL.

My worry with DCL is he'll end up like Franco Di Santo at Wigan. Technically decent, involved in approach play, no killer instinct. Be boss if he adds goals

Does his finishing need work though?

I have never seen him as a player who squanders chances, to me he is more of a player who doesn't get goal scoring chances very often. It's not like he is missing sitters every week.
This sums it up for me, and it's why I still have reservations about him. I think you can work on finishing, doing drill after drill on putting it in the corner etc, but it seems more like the natural instinct to be in the right place and/or do whatever it takes to get your shot away that he lacks. I'm not so sure you can learn that.
