2017/18 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Needs to go to the Championship next year and get a season of games starting as a striker.

He has all the tools except the ability to finish under pressure. It helped Kane and countless other young strikers with similar tools. Obviously it needs to be a favorable situation, but his current role of utility attacker coming of the bench isn't going to help him grow into a #9.

I rarely defend @Zatara's wild theories but in this case, it's not like it's ridiculous to say DCL should have two more goals this season.

I can think of two sitters off the top of my head he's missed - the other day and the one that Tosun eventually scored from v Stoke.

Nobody is saying the lad's brilliant. But the stick he gets on here from posters who for some reason have turned into bad FIFA biffs overnight once we got some money is ridiculous.

One of the only players to come out of this season with any modicum of self-respect.

He has to improve. But he hasn't done bad.

Solanke hasn't scored a goal for the Sh*** this season yet - and while this is the cultish behaviour we mock them for - you don't see them slating him at every opportunity.

We're the polar opposite with DCL, who has been chucked into leading our line for the majority of the season after our failure to replace the £90m, 25-goal-per-season striker we sold last summer, and has had to do it with players supporting him that simply couldn't be arsed for the vast majority. Throw into that under three pretty clueless managers and playing in a variety of positions - hardly ever the same position 3 games running either.

He's not done bad, all things considered.
Just FYI he didn't miss vs Stoke it was stopped on the line

No, because they are not good are they?

They are average, like DCL is pretty average at this point in his career. Average premier league players so he is obviously good enough for top flight football.

Personally I wouldn't be starting him or anything but he has his uses and his shown that he is not out of his depth in the top flight.
Just messin with you mate. The anti DCL stuff on here is a bit nuts. I was agreeing with you but in a bit of a sarkey way.

Of course they do, they just don't come on an Everton forum to do it. Just type Solanke and Ings in to twitter and see what their fans were saying about them leading up to, during, and after the game on Saturday.

I've said before that the lad's done OK this year, but he's playing first team football in the Premier League and that comes with expectation and criticism unfortunately, whoever you play for. If you miss 2 sitters in 3 weeks like he has, people will get on your back. We used to complain about Lukaku when he was the same age, United fans were giving Rooney loads of stick last season despite him literally being one of their all time greats, ask an Arsenal fan about Iwobi if you've got a spare 4 hours to listen to them moan. It's an internet forum for God's sake, people will comment on players as they see fit. He gets loads of support at the games, and people are generally patient with him, but some people on here seem to believe we should be wrapping a 21 year old in cotton wool and be grateful for any positive contribution he makes rather than expecting him to be a functioning member of the team.

I'm happy to be critical of him mate but you know full well that most of the criticism is just 'he's crap la' - which doesn't really offer anything.

For example, you're criticism is fair and accurate. A lot of it has been people writing him off from the first game he played for us (for some reason) without any appreciation for what he offers.

Ultimately he's got a hell of a lot of things to improve on, but he's been one of our better performers this season and doesn't deserve the stick he gets, imo.
