It seemed to me that the defender expected him to cut back inside instead of shooting and had slowed down in anticipation of such and got taken by surprise, you can see that he doesn't even stretch his leg out to try and block the shot

The defender probably should have done better, but it was a very nice finish into the bottom corner. I honestly don't understand our fans right now.

It's alright to be skeptical, but don't knock the lad because he didn't flick it over his head and do a skorpcycle kick. He took advantage of the time given and slotted with aplomb.

...always looked to have something about him. He's not produced a wow moment other than the U23 goal against Man City but he's decent.

It wouldn't surprise me if he was played wide last season just to give him game time.

They obviously saw something in him that made them think he can one day be good enough to play in the PL but obviously they weren't gonna drop Lukaku for him. Add to that the fact that other than getting into Europe (which we did comfortably in the end) we didn't have much to play for they decided to play DCL out wide just to get him some PL experience.

Made us weaker short term than if we played other players there but with the aim at making us stronger long term by helping towards making DCL a PL striker.

I believe other managers have played young strikers out wide to do the same.

At the moment, he's the only target man we have who can play the central role, the others are all support strikers to me. We obviously need a more experienced striker but this lad did more to stretch the defence than Rooney and Sandro had done in the whole tie (in the central position). Any game time he gets should be in this position, I'm looking forward to when he notches his 100th club goal in a few years.

Would start him in that central role up front for both the friendly + Stoke match .....drop one of the defensive midfielders
