The negativity around the club is overwhelming at the moment. There isnt a single player thread where they havent been given dogs abuse... Some deservedly so, but the majority are a joke. Surely we as a club can look at some positives or give players, credit where its due. DCL has worked hard this year, its been a big step up. Yes hes missed chances but hes created many himself and done alot more than many more established players in this league.

It's gonna be interesting to see what happens with DcL next season, and I'm pretty sure that season will be with us rather than on loan somewhere.

My main concern is that I expect his game time is gonna cut substantially from last season. Thanks to our garbage summer we went into last season with terrible options, DcL was pretty much a guaranteed starter as his competition up front was only Niasse in the first half of the season, Bolasie was still injured, Mirallas turned into an absolute crapper and Lookman wasn't fancied.

We saw the likes of DcL and Sigurdsson get shoehorned into attacking position because of our useless options for these positions and it didn't work at all.

DcL is a willing worker, no matter where he plays. But I highly doubt he starts ahead of Tosun (Niasse is my preferred bench option too), he doesn't start ahead of Walcott on the right and he doesn't (or shouldn't) start ahead of Lookman/a new signing on the left. And I highly doubt he's ever gonna play right wing back again!

So I do wonder where his game time is gonna come from. I don't think he should be first backup for either the left or right wings. If he is that suggests to me we've had a poor summer.

Apart from all the jokes and banter, he and a few others will have their chance to prove themselves under a completely new regime.

Make or break season for him. If he doesn’t hit the ground running under Marco then I can’t see him having a huge long-term future here.

Think he’ll probably turn out something like Welbeck. Decent striker and can get into good positions but

DCL is only 21 & will improve again this season he has made good progress...
Expect him to score 10+ goals next season with a few assists...
He will be a very good striker in 2/3 years time at the very least so we must be patient...

The youngsters today are the stars of tomorrow...

Some of the bitterness on here towards our young players is just sad.

Many centre forwards (like centre halves) only reach their peak in late 20s, even 30+. It’s hardly the lad’s fault that he found himself 1st choice.
I think it had a lot to do with the fact that there were only so many angry posts that could be directed towards Koeman, then Allardyce. When people realised they were just repeating themselves, they moved on to the next soft target.
