I think he'll come good, makes some Intelligent runs and puts in the graft. Has the mind for it, the rest will come. Hope we'll have a similar situation as Spurs with Harry Kane

From the above post you wrote I'm assuming you've only ever seen him play in the first team so yes, we're watching a different fella.
Translating skills to senior football is the key (and difficult) part though isn't it?

Saying he's good because he's strong isn't relevant if that strength is only relative to his peers. If he can't use his strength against those more physically developed than him then strength isn't an asset at all.

There have been plenty who have excelled at junior levels but never quite managed to step up, so I think it's fair that people are dubious about his ability to do so. He's young so I'm happy to wait and see if he develops but I can't disagree with anybody who says he's done nothing to suggest he should be playing regularly for us just yet.

That would be true. From what I've seen of him playing in our first team, he doesn't belong.

He's done nada since he's been there. The tap in aside.

Whilst true I think it's unjust to think he's nowhere near ready after only a few appearances last season. Can anyone who has watched the pre-season games so far said he's crap?

I'm not saying let's start with him but he's been made a scape goat already and I think some people have absolutely no idea how to assess talent.

But the point I'm making is that we can only judge on him his first team appearances, it doesn't matter what he does at junior levels because it's a different kettle of fish. It's not about the ability to assess talent, it's about the ability to assess performance. I've repeatedly said DCL may turn out to be a world beater, but at this moment in time he looks out of his depth at this level.

That's all that's being said here - from what i've seen he looks nowhere near ready to be playing regular PL football for a team with top 4/6 aspirations. If he was 25 and we'd paid £10m for him we'd be slating him at the game and saying he was one of the worst signings ever, that isn't happening because most people recognise that he has plenty of time to develop and may well be a key component of the side in future. Nobody should be writing him off, but in my opinion if you're a first team player it doesn't matter how old you are, people expect you to perform.

I don't think anybody can deny that his first team appearances so far have been underwhelming at best and downright awful on occasion (I can sincerely say I can't recall a worse sub appearance than his one at Old Trafford in recent memory).

I take your point but Dowell hasn't done anything in men's football yet is destined to become the new Sheedy by most of GoT? What's this being judged on?

I can't answer that, because I haven't particularly rated Dowell when I've seen him play against senior players either. With Dowell I think the 'talent' is slightly more obvious - his ball control, first touch and finishing are currently better than DCL's - but I'm yet to be convinced that he has enough ability to justify being involved as little as he often is in games.

DCL's been practising the black art of witchcraft and cast a spell over the helpless RK. Surely that's why he starts ahead of Sandro while other youngsters like Dowell and Kenny don't even make it into the squad.
I know Sandro returned late but it seems a strange decision as they're simply not in the same league as players. Anyway I hope DCL can grasp his latest chance. He did uncharacteristically well in Tanzania. Hope that's the DCL we see tonight.

..I imagine he's looking for DCL to get near Rooney and use his height for flick ons etc. He's the only player of that type and is probably why he's included.
