saw an article on twitter satin how he doesn't actually believe anything he said and years ago was championing rights of minorities or something! this is scarier as he is purposely appealing directly to part of the electorate and he doesn't care what he needs to do to get that vote, he's obviously not a complete idiot and knows what he's doing

The thing is, I'm not sure what he's ever done in his life to create that impression. Most of his wealth has been inherited, and whilst he says himself how smart he is, I'm not sure what he's done to really show himself to be some kind of evil genius.

Trevor Noah on The Daily Show suggested that they will ask the if they are muslim, with the security questions that follow being about how many of Santa's reindeer that they can name.

As an aside, did anyone see the segment the day before with Jon Stewart going around Congress trying to get the healthcare provisions for 9/11 first responders renewed? It was utterly magnificent; the kind of angry, brutal comedy that the political class should be on the end of a lot more of.
I started watching this in the UK a couple of months ago, fantastic show

Americans are nationalists tell them there is a threat and you win votes seen it all before with Reagan
it used to be the communists now it's muslims big deal !
there are individuals living in this country preaching hate living off our taxes i would suggest to them people signing petitions put your efforts into signing petitions to remove a more viable threat than some harmless idiot trying to enter the country

Not quite. His father was a real estate developer in New York and he took over the business in 1971. I doubt he was worth $4 billion US back then, so he clearly built the business into what it is today, even with a few bankruptcies among his businesses.
The bigger question I have regarding Trump is that despite all of the denunciations of his comments, even from fellow Republicans, his lead in the polls continues to increase. People often talk about a "silent majority" that disagrees with its politicians, but usually does nothing. Is this maybe a case of said voters finally finding their voice? Or does it say more about the disconnect between the Washington establishment and the general public?

It's estimated that if you took the $40m and invested it in the S&P Index and did nothing else then you wouldn't be too far shy of what he's worth now. Granted, he's made a bit more on top of that soe he isn't a complete dud, but I highly doubt he'd have made a fortune without that handy headstart given to him by his dad.

Agreed, but he wasn't handed $4 billion in 1971. And as you say, he's added to it, so he clearly knows what he's doing in that regard. And it's not like he's sat back and let the windfall do all the work; I know of a few people who inherited a pretty good sum and pissed it away within 10 years.

If anyone is interested, here is the (edit) first half of the segment, the second bit is in a link at the end:
