I'm not so sure. While the Pope had a go at his Christian beliefs over a possible wall, sometime in the future , maybe, there are real razor wire Walls being erected all over Europe, some with the specific intent to keep a country Christian. Again, not a word from the Pope who hasn't played this very well at all. I would think that Trumps PR added to the Popes inconsistency on this might not do him as much harm as people think.......

It was weakness from Trump. He came out swinging initially. Then he realised he'd dropped a bollock and rowed back. That will be noted by his opponents and it wont play well for him.

I'm just amazed an utter freak like him can gain a foothold in any election race. Just shows how laughable the Yanks are.

He had to do something because I believe the next voting is in a proper religious state where he couldn't have his Christian credentials being undermined......I agree with you about the standard of candidates, but then who are we to laugh when you look at the leaders of our major parties......when did our Politicians become political pygmies....with apologies to any pygmies who may have taken offence..........

I think South Carolina has a very small Catholic population and a very large Evangelical Protestant one, so they wouldn't have been too arsed about his comments on a Pope.

No, I think he's looking ahead in the race and acting instrumentally rather than from his own philosophy of saying whatever he wants to about anyone. It was weak and it'll damage him as he gets caught between two stools.

It was a numbnuts initial response, but he should have made no qualification once he said it.
