Well because Gorbachev was instrumental in the fall of the iron curtain, whereas Putin is a macho despot who is anything but a friend of liberal values.

Why is it bad? What is the West's obsession with making Russia the enemy?

I'm not suggesting they be made the enemy, but having some kind of bromance with Putin because he's a macho nationalist is not what I would want any American leader to do, not whilst he presides over a country that continues to restrict a free press, the rights of gay people, invades other countries, shoot down aeroplanes, use gas as a weapon to bully neighbours and so on.

Indeed, for a self-professed libertarian, I'm not sure why you would support someone who has anything but liberal values.

I'm not a liberal.

I want America and the UK to pursue their national interests. Let Putin do what he likes so long as it doesn't affect our national interests.

I don't see him as a threat to the West. If he doesn't want free Press etc. In his own country, what's that got to do with us?

I'm afraid that isn't really very libertarian either. It's one thing to have a live and let live approach to life, but quite another to cosy up to someone who openly opposes values you supposedly uphold.

Depends what you mean by liberal.

I believe we do not have the right to interfere with Russia. I would not like them to interfere with us.

We don't have to cosy up to Putin, but I'd welcome the end to the constant scare mongering of Russia as some huge threat.

I'm sure Ukraine would agree with non interference with other countries.

Trump. I don't know much about Johnson, but voting for him would allow Hillary to win.

so your voting for trump purely to stop clinton? i suppose some people are doing the same thing voting for clinton...

i assume you dont actually believe anything trump is saying?

I thought it was obvious. That tactic was used towards Germany in the 1930s. Give a bully an inch, they take a mile.

The EU was also at fault regarding Ukraine.
