Duncan Ferguson the coach

I dont think Nicky butt is a first team coach...youth academy I believe. Steffen Freund is technical coordinator at Spurs...no coaching at all. Brian Kidd spent a number of years at Utd under SAF, not like Bug Dunc who wouldn’t get a job anywhere else..
So a bit of comparing apples and oranges I think Tubey. But I don’t have a particularly heavy axe to grind with Big Dunc for getting a job on the basis of us being a family club that looks after its own...I love the fact he bleeds blue and does a great gurn.
Good stuff!!

Simple question - why?

What's he done wrong?

If he's such a good coach that he outperforms all those he's sat alongside - and who have been sacked - why isn't he a manager...or considered for the manager's job here?

If we're saying that DF is like Fred the doorman and Jimmy the kitman - old retainers kept by the club out of a sense of duty and nostalgia - then ok. But please let's not claim he's there on merit. He clearly isn't.
Maybe your Fred the Doorman is the same one who refused me that bag of horseshit all those years ago.

He's learning his trade at a club he loves, I don't think he influences training as much as you guys think and tries his best to help new/strikers settle in or give tips in, Don't see the problem with him sticking around, There is absolutely no way he has anything to do with how awful we've been under 3 managers.

It’s still odd that he has survived so many cullings. Personally, I don’t have a beef with him, but I can understand where people are coming from when they say it stinks of Kenwright and sentimentality.

Okay, let’s look at the facts. I’m guessing you have never watched a single coaching session that Duncan Ferguson has ever taken. Never spoken to him about tactics, never had a conversation with him about striking. Have you ever heard a single player or member of Ev staff slate him? Guessing not but just in case you’ve forgotten:

1. DCL has said Duncan Ferguson’s Coaching is making him a better player.
2. Tosun has said Duncan Ferguson’s Coaching is making him a better player.
3. Lukaku, the best striker we’ve had ina generation and one of the best in the PL, says Duncan Ferguson made him a better player.

And finally and I quote from the man that could do no wrong in your eyes, Roberto Martinez.

“His development as a coach has really impressed me and I think he will become someone very special in that first-team structure.

“The players respect him and we’re going to get a lot out of his work.”

But nope, you stick to your argument based on zero first hand experience, evidence and hearsay.

Managers do not employ people to sit on the bench and get in the way - they see an asset and keep them.

Now while I don’t have a problem with Duncan retaining his role I think this is a reasonable view.

Unsworth was given a go after all.

I would keep him myself. He’s been praised by playing staff.

The one of the biggest problems that people seem to have with Ferguson, as I see it, is that no one seems to really know exactly what he does, so people question his role :

Puts cones out.

Attacking Coach.

Debt enforcement, for any player that hasn`t paid his card school gambling debts.

If it was anyone else, I don`t think people would be particularly arsed tbh.

Don't get the anti Dunc feelings of some on here.
How do any of us know how good an assistant coach he is ?
Successive management seem to rate him.
Without any evidence to the contrary , why should he get the chop.
Let him stay in my view.

People just seem to love having someone to hate, even if the reason is not worth working up a sweat about. Social media gives a platform for all the pent up angst of the millenials.

Dunc loves the club and unless people have seen him coaching and are qualified to judge if he's good enough or not, i don't see the harm in him being around. If he's a terrible coach I'm sure he wouldn't be kept around.

He's an employee, he only does what he is told, ergo, any failure surely rests with those giving instruction? nobody knows how much input he actually has. It seems a bit daft to vilify the guy for no apparent reason.

Another one just like Rooney....panned for no reason other than supports us, or that local lad thing...even the technically he is not local....ffs ya know what i mean.

Ross too.

Davies also......

At any premiership club there are quite a few coaches and support staff. Duncan is one of those. He is high profile because of who he is and I feel that he is a link between management and players but has not been a key decision maker in the management structures of Martinez, Koeman or Allyrdyce. The key players leave the club each time and the support staff are unaffected. I think people may inflate Duncan's role at the club.

We know that Marco Silva has brought three key men with him... if Silva fails then I think these are the men to leave.
