Duncan Ferguson - The Coach

Not open for further replies.

I half-agree with this, as I’d like to see Duncan take on the number 1 job somewhere and make a good go at it. It seems like he’s able to motivate players, which is a big part of the job, but would be good to see him develop tactically and be put under a bit of pressure.

That said (and this is the half I don’t agree with), he’d be mad not to stay and work with Ancelotti for a period. The chance to learn from one of the game’s great managers is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Maybe he’s happy being a coach. Maybe he’s got a settled family and it’s the wrong time in his life to be schlepping off to Scotland or down south just to be number 1 somewhere. Maybe he loves Everton more than he loves football. Who knows. He’s stepped up when we asked him to though and has delivered four points from two difficult games that Silva probably wouldn’t have delivered. If he can avoid defeat against Arsenal then he’s done a sterling job for us.

Ferguson on Ancelotti
Heard The same rumours as everyone else has heard. That’s it really. I’ve not spoken to anyone.
It’d be fantastic to work under a top manager. I have in the past and I’d like to continue doing that.

Ferguson on next role
It would be fantastic to work under a top manager...I'd like to continue my education if possible

Ferguson on how he's done
I'm happy with the job I've done but I'm happier with the players..they've been unbelievable

Ferguson on turnaround
We’ve proved that we can beat top teams. We need to sustain that now... We’ve proven that we can do that and need to continue it, push up the league and away from the relegation zone

Ferguson on players' reaction
I'm happy with the job I've done but I'm happier with the players..they've been unbelievable
I've not seen any distraction in the players. They are focused on winning the game. We're still in a perilous position

Ferguson offers injury update
There’s one or two. There’s still some sickness in the camp but I’m hopeful we’ll have a few more in the squad.

Ferguson on future manager job
This has been a great education for myself. There is no real time frame [on being a manager]...but we've all got ambitions. Maybe it will happen for me down the line

Ferguson on favourite part of reign
"I think we've got a little bit of the club back, back to the fans. We've all pulled together as a club."

Ferguson on his players
We’re undefeated against three top teams
They’re good enough, they just had to believe in themselves and we go again tomorrow.

Ferguson on Arteta
I've played with Mikel and he's a top player and I'm sure he's a top coach but I can't comment on who might come in."

Ferguson on potential last game
If it is end tomorrow, then hopefully it will end on a high.

More on Ancelotti
I don’t want to really comment to be honest because I don’t know who the manager is going to be next... but the guy’s an incredible manager. He’s won everything... hopefully we’ll get a top top guy coming in.
I think we’re really ambitious as a club. We want to attract the best guys to the club. It’s a massive club Everton and we’d love these type of guys at the football club.

Ferguson on job awaiting new manager
We’ve got a good base here. He just needs to build on it
Nobody knows the players better than me. I hope whoever comes in uses me.

Ferguson on Leicester game
There were a lot of tears in the dressing room, they were upset but we move on.
The players have been incredible. I couldn’t ask for anything more from them.

If he avoids defeat, he’s done ok overall. A win tomorrow, and I’ll agree with a “Sterling job”

I come to this forum because we have Everton in common and that's good. We have all put up with some rubbish times supporting Everton. The weeks since silva left have seen most of us finding a new optimism thanks do Ferguson and the ancelloti news is amazing. However, I find myself put off from coming to this site too often, because a certain negative and intransigent person basically ruins it. He is not constructive and he perfectly matches the definition of a WUM.... humbug.

Thought he had a few decent patches during the 2nd half mate. Played a cracking ball in for DCL as well. Worked hard, just need a goal to come off his arse or something to get him up and running.

I'd be tempted to start him with DCL Saturday and move Richarlison to one of the wide spots.

Agree with the bolded.

Richy has games or parts of games where he looks great up top. But sometimes not. I don't think he was that good against Leicester. The whole bit about flopping aside, he's not that big and the banging bodies with CBs wears him out IMO. That happened last season after several games as the lone striker.

I think he's ultimately best cutting inside from the wing.

I like two up top to give DCL someone to play off. Kean is bigger.

Plus the wing play against Leicster was poor. Bernard and Iwobi, neither showed much.

So yeah.

Put him on ignore.

Looked to clearly be scripted.

...we can dress it up all we want. It was, however, a lost game.

Three games - 1 win, 1 draw, 1 loss. That's just the facts. I;d also say the level of perfomance has dipped in each subsequent game too.

This is the Everton entry in today's fan matrix in the i newspaper.

It hasn't brightened my day much though.

Well that's Arteta got the Arsenal managers job.

Probably the 6th biggest football related job in the UK.

I'm really glad that he went off and managed loads of smaller teams first to prove that he was deserving of such a position.

Oh, wait...
