Duncan McKenzie

....as I say, I fully understand why folk liked him, Dave, but I was never a fan, just like you’re not a fan of Leighton Baines and Phil Jagielka.

As with the ‘other Duncan’, neither are worthy of legend status.
It's more understandable to not like two dullards like Baines and Jagielka. McKenzie was a good player as well as a showman. Clough bought him, so there's a confirmation of sorts in that.

Maybe I'm biased: McKenzie, Dobson, Ross, Lyons, King etc were my team when I was a kid and first started going.

...and I think following that team through your formative years is a lot to do with it. At a similar age, I was watching the 1970 team after already seeing us win the title in 1963.

...ah, eh. I like him lots, he seems a lovely bloke.

i’m just saying he was an ineffective footballer. Unfortunately for him, throwing a golf ball into the Park End from Gwladys St, or jumping over the bonnet of a mini meant nothing when it came to playing footy.
He would have been great on The London Palladium, not so great on a football field. A smashing and genuine fella off the pitch, married to Arthur Styles’s sister, Arthur was a good Everton left back whowent toBirmingham City with Howard Kendall in part exchange for Bob Latchford.

....Styles was classy with a great schoolboy football pedigree. There’s a wonderful clip of him being sent off for Birmingham at Old Trafford that provides an insight to his character.
