...ah, eh. I like him lots, he seems a lovely bloke.

i’m just saying he was an ineffective footballer. Unfortunately for him, throwing a golf ball into the Park End from Gwladys St, or jumping over the bonnet of a mini meant nothing when it came to playing footy.
Are you saying Tom Davies is the new dunncy mac??

My first Everton hero. I remember when he backheeled the ball over his own head and that of his marker, ran past him and carried on with the ball. After the match I went straight into the garden to practice the move. That's what a talented footballer can do, and that's why he was loved. Travelled a lot watching that team with my dad as a small boy, many happy memories (and a few sad ones).

I cannot agree with that.

Duncan was an integral part of the very entertaining 1977/78 side, Gordon’s first full season, which was involved in the title race all season.

He made 28 starts and scored 9 goals.

Gordon’s team was never as good after Mac was sold at the end of that campaign.

We all agreeeeee.......Duncan McKenzie is magic.....:)
I agree that team had the potential to win things but Lee never wanted him , wasn't he quoted as saying flair is something you have on your trousers?

It's more understandable to not like two dullards like Baines and Jagielka. McKenzie was a good player as well as a showman. Clough bought him, so there's a confirmation of sorts in that.

Maybe I'm biased: McKenzie, Dobson, Ross, Lyons, King etc were my team when I was a kid and first started going.

Not forgetting Big Bob and Dave Thomas, Dave :)

I dont remember him as a player, but I did enjoy this story about him and Lee when Everton played some game in Egypt, or in the Middle East anyrate.

The local language was French, or Flemish, and Dunc had learnt the language after playing at Anderlect, I think.

Either way, Lee didnt have a clue, so Dunc was the interpreter with the local media.

"Mr Lee, whats its like to see Everton play in Africa?"

"We arnt in Africa, we are in Egypt".

Dunc, in French. "The boss is honoured to be here, its a great country"

Media. "What do you make of your opponents, (random local club)?"

Lee. "No idea. Never heard of them"

Dunc. In French. "They will be a tough opponent. Their midfield is very strong"

lol

Dave Thomas was the one. We had some talented wingers in that era. I cant remember Morrissey, but I think I saw a few games of Gary Jones who had a bag of tricks, but it would have been right at the beginning of my time. Ronnie Goodlass was decent too. But Dave Thomas was superb.

Did you see John Connolly, Dave?

He was brilliant until he was crocked by some grock from Altrincham

Duncan Mckenzie walks on water
Tra la la la la la la la laaaa
NO MATE YOU GOT THAT SONG WRONG. here it is "we all agree Duncan McKenzie is magic, magic,,,, we all agree Duncan.....
The second one" Bobby Latchford walks on water.... Naner Nan naaaa.
The the classic from that Era "oh Andy is our king"
We hadn't beat the Rs for 7 years, played them at Goodison. What a strike from Andy King, think it was goal of the season. Pandemonium in the enclosure. Beat them one nil I will never forget it. Got goosebumps now. Ahhhhhh

This definitely, and also remember the placard being held up outside St Luke’s as we headed towards the Gwladys St, “Jesus saves, Bob Latchford gets the rebound”!

Wasn’t a great era for banners , I remember the “General Lee “” one then people pointed out he was on the losing side ..
It wasn’t a great period for the team either , and the fact is that even 40 years later I can recall Duncan’s play with fondness. He had something about him , Magic.
