Dunkirk

My understanding of it is that a lot of the dogfighting happened at sea during this event so troops on the ground were unaware of the RAF's assistance.

Tell you later if this is covered in the film!

Combats took place inland of Dunkirk, and also were so high that the troops on the ground did not see the RAF fighter squadrons making the interceptions. Hence the perception that the RAF were not present during the evacuation.

Take a look at this:
If you want a great book excellently researched on the subject.

Laugh away Jal , can you not see the enormous obligation each and every one of us owes to our American friends ? Our forefathers , us and our children's children are beholden to them no doubt ! Non of us should forget this !!

Everything we got from the Yanks had to be paid for, and WAS paid for, payments cintinuing for many decades after the war finished (I think right up to the 1990s). I believe other countries (i.e. Germany and Japan, got major assisance in rebuiding post-war, which was not subject to repayment) were not treated the same as us. The real debt should be to the Soviet Union, who took the whole might of the German army on, and while retreating and being defeated in battles at first, eventually overcame and drained the German army of its strength in a seriously major way, ever before the D-Day invasion of June 1944.

The fact that it's 1hr 46 mins makes me want to go and see it

So sick of bloated, overlength modern films - full of Basil Exposition and unnecessary characterisation

Tranformer 5. What a load of tosh that is.

Dunkirk is the best movie I have seen since Interstellar.

Just got back from watching Dunkirk.

A good film. No doubt there are a number of historical inaccuracies but it seemed a reasonable enough summary of events.

Not much of a soundtrack for One Direction to play with though...

quite brilliant, halfway through I felt like I did when I watched the towers fall on 9/11, it was almost like I was watching history as it as it happened on those few days. the lack of dialog I thought worked really well, and when Elgar's Nimrod started to play was really ,quite moving.

brought to life the horror of war, the bravery, and all the emotions those young men went through. well worth a view at the cinema, needs a big screen so on a small screen wouldn't have the same effect imo.

Given the budget for the film, and the research that was undoubtedly done for it, it is an utter joke that they have yellow-nosed Messerschmitt Bf 109s!

Absolutely staggering! Messerschmitt Bf 109 units did not received orders to paint the engine cowlings, wingtips and rudders with temporary yellow paint until mid August 1940...

That is a basic error in this day and age...

Kids eh........
