Confirmed Signing Dwight McNeil

Someone said a bit earlier in this thread that it's like signing a younger Townsend for £15m (or words to that effect)... how is that a bad thing?? lol

Im sure the guy who played Murdock from The A Team was a Dwight and thats a big thumbs up from me,

Putting my positivity hat firmly on..

I think him and Patterson on the right could potentially be molded into a very good combo. We've already seen how good Patterson's wing-back play can be, including his overlapping & crossing. McNeil ahead of him then gives us an option to cut inside from the right and utilise his strong left foot for either shooting or switching the play over to the left.

I genuinely wonder if Lampard has this in mind. If it works then we've potentially got the right-hand side sorted for the next few years.

The thing that worries me most about the negativity shown towards this signing is that so many will be hoping he fails so they can get their dopamine hit from saying "I told you so" on an internet forum.

Many of you have already positioned yourselves to hope he fails and that will seep through into the atmosphere at games; I can already hear the groans when he tries an ambitious pass that doesn't quite come off. The exact same thing happened with countless players in the past.

Give the lad a chance FFS!

Whoever said that is wrong. Townsend could also run, McNeil is about as fast as a runny bog. The only reason i can imagine bringing him in would be dead ball situations, and thats not reason enough imho.
I really hope we dont waste 15m on this guy.

Mate, he's a better bet than 31 year old injured Andros Townsend at this point and I rated Townsend early last season.

Why overreact?? What's the point in that?

Stop parroting nonsense.

Having multiple effective playing styles isn't really a thing even for top teams. They play one way and do it very well. Being far more balanced and having more left footed players gives us an extra dimension.
Again, not really what I mean. City may only have one way of playing but it's a multidimensional style in itself so they aren't 'one dimensional'. They pass the ball around but they're looking for ways to break you down and can score all different types of goals, with players from all over the pitch contributing. They have a wide range of skillsets in the team, and if you take one player out it doesn't bring the whole thing crashing down. Our current side (and again i'm not suggesting this can't change) has very little creativity, a lack of real pace, no ability to keep hold of the ball and only one player with any sort of goalscoring record. It is difficult to see what type of goals we can score other than crosses into the box (see pre-season for confirmation). Whether you call it one dimensional or not is just semantics really, but the players we have available to us at the moment will not be giving any managers headaches about how they can stop us.

At £15m potentially rising to £20m we are over-paying significantly for a player who struggled last year in many aspects of his game. The criticisms of lack of pace and being totally one-footed are valid but he does have positive attributes as well and could help supply DCL. I do not think he is guaranteed to start by any means but I hope he over-achieves my rather pedestrian expectations for him.
