Can I just ask..

Why is a 22 year old wide player's goals & assist stats being compared to that of a striker?? apples & oranges surely?

His CCp90 is still pretty good and his overall output really isn't that far away from a certain young scouser already at the club whom many seem to rate..

All three of those cost peanuts - and two of them were on loan initially

We don't have any money and have at least 2 positions that we desperately need to fill in 9 days

If you aren't underwhelmed and slightly bewildered by this signing then good for you - but most of us are.
Most of us where? On this forum? If that's what you're going off, it's not a good indicator Ankit what the wider fanbase feel, it's often just an echo chamber.

£15m is hardly a native outlay in three modern era so it's relative peanuts. How do you know they're not going to fill those other positions as well? If they don't then fair enough, but why not just wait and see???

doesn't wash with me. so without getting into a back and forward conversion on clearly are different options on the standard of our club, are you saying McNeil is a player of the standard we should be looking at for 20m?. Much better players around for that kind of money with better end product.
First part of your question - No, ideally McNeil is not the players I would be wanting for Everton especially at that price, but unfortunately AT THE MOMENT, and where we are as a club, that is the best we can do, especially if the downpayment is 6M as reported. Hopefully Frank can improve him...

Second part - I agree, but none of them will want to come to Everton, and that unfortunately is the reality...

That’s very optimistic. We’re building a squad of players who’ve fought relegation or been relegated throughout their careers.

A mid-table finish seems a bit of a pipe dream considering we’ve lost our best player and at the moment at least, seem to have replaced him with a guy who an attacker who doesn’t score or assist.

We're restricted on what we can spend, we're not exactly a draw at the moment and we're looking to consolidate and move forward incrementally. What were you expecting? Especially given the fact that most european clubs aren't in a position to accept longer, structured deals.

That's a
It looks more balanced in that sense yes, but that’s not what I said. It looks very one dimensional, basically we’re looking at getting wide and putting crosses in for DCL. If that doesn’t work, or god forbid he gets injured, then what do we do? Currently our entire game plan revolves around providing for DCL and him scoring 20 goals, so it’s very one dimensional.
All true but aren't Man City one dimensional too?

They pass teams off the pitch , but there is no plan B they just execute Plan A supremely well .

There is nothing wrong with a team playing with width and getting crosses into the box , where it falls down is , as you have referenced ,when your only decent Cf and player capable of heading is injured / unavailable.

If you brought in someone else as a decent back up to DCL then 4411 ( with Ali and DCL being the 11 with backup ) could work and may be the best use of out limited resources.

Let's face it - we are in a hole. We have no identity , no defined way of playing and can't spend our way out of trouble or to a more refined way of playing with better players.

Maybe the likes of Barkley/Alli are the the different dimension. They'd be more play through the middle or through the lines type.
The thought of signing Barkley makes me ill and it's nothing to do with how he left. We're talking about a lad who's not made 50 league starts in the 4 1/2 seasons since he left. Relying on him and Alli, who has also been in decline for pretty much the same period, seems absolutely crazy to me.

There's time for things to change, i'm not trying to be a doom monger just saying it how I see it, but at this moment in time I still don't see any signs at all of anything being built. We just seem to be signing a random assortment of players because we can afford them, without any real plan of what we're going to do with them. I feel like a week before the season starts they're still not sure what formation they want to play, it's worrying.

Mate I’m not even sure McNeil starts for us. Gray and Gordon are better. We’re buying a squad player rather than addressing the real issues in the team.
