It's ok to pick Burnley's pockets.. they've lost Mee and Tarko and a keeper too so they look like they are in the mood to sell.. We are operating at a level where we have to be thinking of pushing on from 16th. If Frank can get us to midtable then we can breathe a little easier for now. Players who want to play for us will do me (instead of some of those who spent last season doing sod all).

Wait and see what the Guardian think this afternoon. I reckon 14th or so (perhaps above Leeds/Wolves/Saints/promoted 3)

If he's starting ahead of Gray, we are then banking on him scoring more than 5 goals and 5 assists a season as thats what Gray offers. That's without even replacing Richarlison still.

Would the squad be more balanced? Yes.
Would the squad look better? At this stage no, it would be still be weaker as I wouldn't be banking on Mcneil to start weighing in with 8+ goals which is what's needed.
I think some people are definitely not understanding this. We didn’t score enough goals last year and now we’ve lost our top scorer. At the moment it looks like the best we’ll manage is to bring someone in who replaces richarlisons goals, when what we really need is to replace them and add more from elsewhere. The squad currently looks even more one dimensional than it has in recent years, which is quite a feat.

Huge risk though isn't it, banking on DCL to stay fit for the whole season. At some point he's going to need a break even if he stays fit and next in line is Rondon and he simply isn't up to standard.

We have to get some kind of quality forward in and sharpish and a DM.
Rondon isn’t up to standard leading the line or on the counter but he’s not bad at finishing and decent in the air so perhaps could benefit from Dwight’s delivery

I refer you to four weeks before the end of last season where bookmakers were quoting Burnley at 5/1 to be relegated and us at 9/10...

I rest my case.
doesn't wash with me. so without getting into a back and forward conversion on clearly are different options on the standard of our club, are you saying McNeil is a player of the standard we should be looking at for 20m?. Much better players around for that kind of money with better end product.

Disagree.

With Vinagre and McNeil coming in we now have 3 left footers. That's much more balance and ability to open up different playing angles.

replacing Richarlison with a player who didn’t score a single goal last season and got just one assist.

Our inability to look beyond the U.K. for players is astounding. There’s surely better players in the other leagues available for the same amount.

Young with possible re-sale value above what we're paying, creates a number of chances (can't be blamed for these being missed), decent at set pieces (probably the only one in our squad), an actual left footed left winger & payment terms suit what we can afford.

Smart business IMO.

I have a feeling we'll bring another wide player in after McNeil (more of a Richarlison replacement).

With the 5 sub rule we'll realistically need 4 wide players - McNeil, Gordon, Gray + one more.

Townie is out injured still for a while.

Why I would take Gana on loan and allow us to spend money on another wide player who can contribute with the gols.

We definitely need someone who is capable of scoring goals because between Mcneil, Gordon and Gray, that'll probably be about 10 goals, 15 at an absolute push I reckon.

We'll be in serious trouble if we don't get someone in who can slot 10 goals minimum

Problem with looking abroad this window is that everybody in Europe is cash-strapped and wanting fees up front.
