2022/23 Dwight McNeil

I may be extremely old school here, but I thought we would have signed a winger based on his assists and goal contribution

Especially considering how poor we’ve been creating chances and scoring

Nobody more on here than me has ranted about our inability to create chances - for years now, but 0 goal and 1 assist in the previous season suggests that element of the game wasn't why they signed him.

The only conclusion I've come to is that he's somehow got naked pics of Lampard / Thelwell, possibly together, and used it for a big money Everton move and minutes on the pitch. Can't be anything else at all.

That’s the issue tho, we were already a team lacking goals and assists so why spend what little money we had on a player with limited goals and assists?

I’ll be honest , as much I want a player to do well , my heart sank when we signed this lad because deep down I knew it was another sign of a lack of foresight and problem solving from the club.

I was thinking he was the latest victim to be blamed entirely for everything bad happening in and around the club, which I thought possibly harsh, even though I do think he is very poo.

But having seen that clip, on top of his general performances, he entirely deserves every bit of of stick he gets. And more. That shows exactly why we will lose to better teams, equal teams AND teams worse than us “on paper”. Because wasters like this have no desire to win games, score goals or stop goals. They blindly try to implement what they’ve been told to do but with no built in drive. It’s like Walking Dead football.

He’s not great, or fast, but he has good technical ability. No PL players are actually as bad as we say they are. It’s actually impossible to get into and through academy football whilst being actually crap. So it’s all about confidence, desire and effort. If this fella showed some of the last two on this list, maybe he wouldn’t have spent 18 months moaning he was low on the first. It would take care of itself. You are low on confidence because you are low on effort you spanner.

Please ffs just buy 11 players that are of mediocre quality, and have fully accepted this fact deep in their hearts, but they have had the realisation that if they actually sodding TRY they will be loved by fans and forge a great career at a much higher level than their base abilities might indicate.

3 Robbie Savages would be much harder to play against than our soppy midfield, and he was a terrible footballer, but he knew it, and through sheer pigheadedness ended up earning millions kicking people. We have zero players with that mentality. He would have made 6 professional fouls in the build up to Wolves winner, and probably rugby tackled Moutinho whilst he waited 5 seconds deciding where to dink that delicious cross.

FL failing badly at “giving the fans a team they like and identify with”. That clip incites proper Schneiderlin levels of hatred.

Apologies for the long rant, and for mentioning Robbie Savage.

Whether you rate McNeil or not - I did but he has regressed and worryingly shows absolutely no hunger or desire - you only sign a player like him if you are going to play with a centre forward to get on the end of his crosses ( which is his main attribute).
Therefore , knowing that Calvert Lewin has a question able injury record it is lunacy to bring in Maupay , the polar opposite , as his deputy.
Everton that , just like when we acquired three no10s at the same time .
Idiots running our club at all levels. Just no joined up thinking.

Well said mate.

It’s hard to know what we’re trying to do going forward as getting the ball through the midfield quickly or trying to get Maupay to hold it up isn’t going to work and when you don’t have a centre forward or forwards capable of retaining possession.

If Maupay is playing through the middle then the wingers need to invert and get into the box or we need runners from midfield.

Our problem is that we are not great in transition yet we still made some good chances against Wolves but couldn’t put them away.

In hindsight its easy to see how Maupay is a poor signing. However you were all desperate for a striker and the club used what money was available to buy one. Most of you claimed how much better we were as a team during his first few games. I remember distinctly reading from a few posters how it didn't matter that he doesn't score because our shape is so much better! The club should stop listening to the fans (recruiting Lampard/buying a striker with very limited funds) and use their own intuition.

Great pace and desire there from McNeil to support Maupay, as he gets outpaced by….. Craig Pawson.

While you are criticising McNeil, have a look at Gordon. Supposedly our fastest player, doesnt even get in to their half until the last frame of the clip.
Both were an absolute joke all match in term of effort, and gray wasn’t much better when he came on.

Maupay ran about a little more than the others, but I can’t really have a go at him as he isn’t the forward you want getting long balls blasted up to him for 90 mins.

The movement was atrocious from the front players and the midfield, has been for some - look at every other side in the league, and they do it better than we do.

Considering frank was one of the best I. The world at making runs and arriving late in the box I’m not sure exactly what he’s doing with them in training.
