2023/24 Dwight McNeil

I really want to like the guy and I really believe he can be better than he has been for us. But there isn’t a player I dislike watching more than McNeil as a left sided winger. It’s awful. Bad crosses. Endlessly being forced backward. Tons of pointless attempts to get around the edge of players who just shepherd him to the corner. It’s completely useless unfortunately having him out there. It’s not all his fault, he is clearly playing to the instructions he’s given.
The two things that really get me with him are when other players make passes that are not absolutely perfectly to his left foot and it totally messes him up (as in, there are regularly passes where all he'd have to do is stick out his right foot to settle the ball to then do something with his left, but he won't even reach with his right), and when he starts dribbling backwards because the defenders know exactly where he's going to turn to and position themselves as such. He must be the easiest player to defend in the league, as even the most one footed players can typically block off a ball or make a 5 yard pass to a teammate with their weak foot from time to time.

He also cuts a month off my life every time he does that fake, then fake again, then fake again while he closes himself down for a cross that's absolutely getting blocked thing. Guy can blast the ball if it falls to him in the right places. He can also dribble past guys when they slip or for some reason forget his characteristics. That is about it.

As much as I admire him and his commitment to the team, he should have been given leave for a while while the off field stuff was going on, the more games have gone on the more it’s affected him
It's that and also the fact he was never fast and we're asking him to... run. He's literally a snail on the pitch compared to every other non-Ashley Young player.
better game in a poor team performance, but where's Dobbin ? Scores, then is sidelined?
Not ExPeRiEnCeD. How he gets that experience without playing is anyone's guess, but that's a question for Dyche really.

The Manager who selects a team in the first half = Sunday league teams play better football than HOOF - our keeper, the integral player in his tactics = Hoof ....

He can be an asset if properly utilized but setting him up to play on the break is absurd. He makes gomes look like the flash, had that excellent interception and then darted forward only to retreat due to his sluggishness

Has looked cream crackered for weeks, and maybe still carrying that injury.

Dobbin or chermiti should be getting minutes.

He looks exhausted, and I get that with what hes been through. Whats really criminal is we didnt bring a winger in during January when we all knew we would need one. We started the Palace game with only 1 winger, McNeil, who hasnt been himself and needs a good break.

Thought he came into the game in short bursts, as opposed to fading or being consistently disappointing.

Not something you see too often. I don't think tiredness covers it.

Don't like the fact people keep bringing up the situation with his missus, seems pretty crass.

He's always been rubbish but for extremely brief purple patches, this isn't a recent thing just because of his personal life.

There were several times last night he could've carried the ball up the pitch or had a pop at goal, just as there was against Man City, and he just passes the buck. It's not good enough.
