2024/25 Dwight McNeil

This is unforgivable IMO. No player should be laughing when you’re losing. Especially 4-0 down.
Walter Smith got rid of Michael Ball and Jeffers for doing something similar on the team bus after a defeat.

A player with professional pride and who wants to be a winner does not do this... Get they are probably friends from way back in youth teams, time and place for it, and its not on the pitch in a competitive match. Could never imagine Southall Reid doing this publicly.

….even in the 70s, as a CF I would sometimes wear no3. Teammates laughed but if I was playing against somebody like Harry Bennet (played one game for the Toffees and a real character) it was a badge of honour for him to leave something on the no9. We shared a joke about it and he still kicked me all over the pitch but I felt it helped

They have it so much easier today.
Is harry still fit...... have you got his number

I doubt he has this in abundance, always comes across as weak as piss, scared to win any 50-50s, scared to compete for headers, always looking to get rid of the ball as quickly as possible and give responsibility to someone else.

That run when he was basically in on goal on the right side was embarrassing. Every single touch you could see how he was working out how to get it on his left foot.

Like watching a little schoolboy whose not very good at football but is forced to play by the teacher.

One wonders how he actually made it as a professional. He's extremely limited. Did he go through a massive growth spurt at 16 where he reached his current height of six foot, and was at the time more physically developed than most of his peers?

He has no outstanding qualities as a winger, so it's possible he was scouted in some other position where you don't need to be fast or particularly strong or technically elite - maybe he was a number 8 or something in his youth teams?

Got his professional contract through a lot of luck and kind of went from there.

Released by United when he was 14, Burnley took him in probably based on 'he's probably decent if he came through at United' and he did a decent job in their youth teams, likely imo for the reasons given above, and was handed a shot in the first team at 18.

7 goals in 3 seasons at Burnley, had an overall decent first season with Everton but has regressed massively / his short first season purple patch could not be maintained yet he's still been kept in the side as he's a manager's pet.

Awful player who needs sacking off ASAP. £20m - sheesh, we'd be lucky to get a third of that back.

I think that Dyche wants him to be the main man, which he isn't. He can have a place in the team because he's capable of creating and scoring goals from outside the box but it feels like he has a free role at times which is all wrong.

Are we really turning on McNeil for smiling with Rashford, when most of you lot were laughing in here when the 3rd and 4th were going in?
Come on mate. There’s a difference between turning to your mate in the boozer when they score their third or fourth however being on the pitch and trying to make mates at 4-0 down is a joke. A player who did that I wouldn’t be playing again for a long time.

According to Kevin Thelwell, when we signed him, he said

“the statistics prove we have brought in one of the best young talents in English football.”

Here are his stats at Burnley

147 appearances 7 goals 17 Assists

Cant argue with those stats if you keep in mind he was playing for Dyche at Burnley.

Under a more attacking manager (Lampard?), i'm sure he'd have been expected to triple those numbers:

P147
21 goals
51 assists

Now that would have been good if he hadnt flopped.

I think I will wait until I have seen the players under a different manager before slaughtering them. They're all out of form, too a man. They may not be world beaters but I'm sure they're better than what we are currently witnessing. They hate the tactics, I don't think they particularly fond of Dyche either.

I expect to see a higher level of performance once the shackles are off and we stop launching the ball into orbit. If not, then I'll start with the criticism, I bet they're crapping their pants over that
