2024/25 Dwight McNeil

…I was wondering how many corners and other set plays have we scored from since he’s been out. I think he’s been a bigger miss than realised.

Can’t help think his injury has been mis-managed, leaving it for 6 weeks to heal by itself then having to have the op. These medical decisions have an impact on points.

100%

His set pieces are the only thing that was keeping us afloat under Dyche

That being said, it's difficult to see where he'd fit in under Moyes right now, but he'd be v useful to have coming off the bench at least.

He’s be a shoe in ahead of Doucoure even if many of us don’t rate McNeill…instant improvement.

I find it bizarre reading through this thread how underrated he is. He being out is a big miss for us. Also only just turned 25 so we’re likely not seeing the full potential yet. I really rate the lad
Agree. We effectively brought in McNeil (25) and Ndaiye (24) for Gordon (23). People act as though Gordon is George Best when he's more Park Ji-Sung (machine out of possession yet lacking productivity in possession).

Double figures prem goals last season for Gordon and he probably will again this season. He’s a key player for Newcastle.

He’s a far better player than McNeil overall.

Gordon plays in a team that creates a load of chances and given him many tap ins. He has developed as a player since leaving Everton but yeah he isn't scoring double figures over a season in an Everton team managed by Dyche.

Ndaiye has scored 6 league goals this season same as Gordon and had to mostly create his own chances. McNeil has had many effective and influential games for Everton. As a pair I'm taking those two over Gordon all day long.

If you take away Gordon's pace and impressive fitness levels and focus in on the core skills of passing and shooting then you have a poor finisher on the whole and a fairly average passer of the ball. His main strength is pressing and he's very good at doing it.

But he isn't a Bowen or Saka who are genuine game changers as wide players. His first touch and instant decision making is still lacking in my view. He often finds himself in good positions sometimes due to his own good work yet he will do nothing with the ball.
