Dyche and Thelwell

I think Dyche knows there's no way new owners want him and his style of football, especially going into the new stadium, so a lot of what he's saying now is the start of "saving face" when he's relieved of his duties. Wouldn't take it as being aimed at Thelwell, more aimed at the circumstances he's managed under in his time here.

I’m on record as supporting Dyche but it’s been largely dire this season. I hoped he’d make us better but it’s not looking that way, I can’t defend or make excuses for performances like today. I think his anchievement last season was terrific but I fully understand posters who want him out and have no issues if that happens.

I’m on record as not being a fan of Thelwell but know lots think he’s doing a good job. I don’t. It doesn’t mean I have an agenda, I’d like him to be good. I don’t get he can only sign players on ‘pay nothing up front, pay later deals’, it’s no excuse to sign poor footballers. I don’t get he has little money to spend, DoFs are paid lots of money to find players within the budget they have.

I think it’s important the Manager and DoF are on the same page but I thought there were a few telling quotes tonight from Dyche suggesting they’re not.

He said; “I like Fulham, they have recruited really well”, suggesting we haven’t. Asked why he doesn’t play 4-4-2 as he often did at Burnley, he said “I don’t have the personnel to do it here’.

So, maybe there’s an issue here. Maybe it’s not Dyche and Thelwell, maybe it’s more Dyche v Thelwell. Interesting what the new owner does as these are the key appointments in any club.
It’s clear as day Dyche is ignoring O’Brien and is only grudgingly using Lyndstrom and Mangala. A canyon between him and Thelwell.

Even if the two they brought in were Begiristain and Mancini?
Yep too risky. The reality is I think we wouldn’t bring them in….its less risky I think if both manager and DoF are aligned in footballing philosophy like Emery and Monchi but overall too risky a move and if the DoF is the executive that looks after footballing vision, strategy and execution throughout the club to give the club a footballing identity (buzzword is DNA) the DoF really is the first decision that needs to be made.

I suspect they know they won’t be retaining Dyche’s service so in my opinion it is likely they will retain the services of Thelwell even if only for a moderate extension of contract and they will involve him in the decision making process.

Agree that clearly SD is not going to be here going forward. Especially if they were there today lol.

Perhaps they get someone DoF-ish in to work with KT during the transition also tho.

We’ve definitely regressed this season. Despite the fact, we did spend money in the Summer. Ndiaye, O’Brien we paid decent money for, Tim (one for the future, but he looks promising). Lindstrom, Broja and Mangala on loan. That’s 7 players recruited and only Ndiaye is a regular for us. Maybe it’s because as you alluded to, Dyche isn’t happen with the recruitment from Thelwell. But whatever the reason, that’s 7 players brought in, more than one of them should be making an impact. It’s not like they’re trying to break into a city 11. Or is it down to the fact Dyche only has a plan A and doesn’t have the ability to adapt his tactics to get more out of these newly recruited players, who we don’t know if he wanted them in the first place.
100% that's what it is.

Dyche mentions it on numerous occasions about not making changes unless it's necessary. Burnley fans came on here and said he'll pretty much pick the same 11 when given the chance and he's been proving right.

Put it this way.

DCL is given 17 games to score a goal -
Beto is given 1
Lindstrom stunk the gaff out 1st half against Palace and is dropped -
Harrison is given game after game
Mcneil given game after game when in poor form
Doucoure given game after game in poor form

There's 14 players he loves which are

Pickford
Young
Coleman
Keane
Tarkowski
Branthwaite
Mykolenko
Gana
Garner
Doucoure
Mcneil
Harrison
Ndiaye
DCL

He'll do his utmost to ensure they're in the 11, playing the same rigid system of hoping to get the ball forward for a set piece

"Dof are paid lots of money to find players within their budget"

Managers are paid to win games and improve the players they have but you seem to back dyche regardless of that fact.
