I remember last season he was talking about baines eventually playing in a Phillip Lahm role for Bayern, and just sitting further forward. He attempted to play him there at Newcastle a few months ago, with mixed results

I know we are keen not to put square pegs in round holes but. players have come here and changed positions before, jags and stonsey spring to mind. I think the idea should be to have a consistent team based on the next 2-3 seasons;

I think that is about right.
We need real quality players to fill in those positions listed as ???
And if any of the others leave, or form warrants replacing, once again real quality is needed in replacing them.
So that is 5 real quality players required that will take probably a minimum 2 Summers to locate.
And no, I don't mean squad type (or in Cleverley's case dross).
Roberto needs to go out into the international market and find players that are comfortable on the ball to play his system, or he will be gone.

I agree. Get the back sorted first with keeper and CB, and then another striker who can score. If Lukaku goes down we are relegated.
