Baines is a no for me.

In retrospect, we should have cashed in on him sooner. I'd have both Oviedo and Garbutt in at LB before him.

Besic has to be a starter too depending on who we face / formation required.

I agree we should have cashed in on Baines, but the fume would have been epic considering it would have been to Utd and Moyes. If we knew how good Garbutt was then it would have been a no brainer. If a big bid comes in for Coleman this summer he could be replaced by a cheaper version like Trippier. As much as I like Seamus £20m as has been quoted could be invested in a top notch attacking player like Memphis Depuy.

10-15m on a top class new keeper is an absolute must. If we could get Cech that would be ideal, but we won't be able too.

Alcaraz, Barry, Distin, McGeady, Pienaar, Howard should be out the door

The Robertson kid at Hull has a decent future too.

Coleman and Baines have been useless this year.
Agreed, although I believe that their decline is at least in part to the system we've played and their subsequent vulnerability.

I'm not saying they haven't just been poor on individual occasions as they clearly have, such as Baines forgetting how to take a corner et al.

Yet how many times has Baines played with no wide player in front of him this season? Less cover defensively and often having to run from deep.

Neither could you justly claim that Coleman has had a reliable and engaged individual in front of him over the entire season.

There performances haven't been up to scratch, yet I think the above and other elements have contributed to the situation.

Both need to certainly up their game, but equally we need to be helping to get the best out of them. I wouldn't be expecting to drop or sell yet.

At least we've got Oviedo and Garbutt as alternatives on the left if Baines doesn't up his form or eventually leaves.

Less cover (well no cover) on the right, as I no longer consider Hibbert a footballer.

Think after last year Coleman and Baines have been targeted a bit this year. teams were pushing up on them to stop them getting the ball in the opposition half. Baines has had know one in front of him all season, his interplay with pienaar and Osman has not been available. I think we have a mid table squad with a top 6 first team when they are all firing, luckily for Martinez the boy's were on fire last year.
That doesn't seem to stop Garbutt bombing forward though.

He's defo lost something Baines. Appetite or form, I dont know which, but he's not the same player.

David, I warned you to leave Jags alone, that doesnt mean you switch to Baines.

Last warning really mate.

We should keep Kone for the rest of his contract, kinda like as a reminder about how not to let Martinez sign anymore players, EVER.

We were rumoured to be interested in him Jan 2014 in a double deal with another Dundee Utd defender John Soutar.
I can understand why we didn't pursue it back then, but if Garbutt is off and Baines and Oviedo are the two competing for that place it makes more sense now.

If Garbutt does leave, use the cash getting Robertson in...although I'm sure he'd have other suitors by now.

The Indy wannabe emu look-a-like has had a permanent cob on all season.

He's expendable, imo.

Oh @davek ... I have big respect for you as you know but Jesus wept.

you were a savage vulture when Jagielka was in a poor patch. Now he's arguably our most in form player you have been less vocal. You now turn to Baines...

I would have thought that you of all people would see and appreciate what Baines brings...*sigh*

Looks like @Dithering Dougie and I will have our work cut out again as the impressionable masses now cling to Daves, for me, short sighted opinion on our trusted left back.

For me this is up there with you wanting us to play the kids after 13 games of the season!

TBH, I haven't stopped any criticism of Jagielka. Primarily the criticism there was because he's a tailor's dummy of a captain. He should have that taken off him. But let's focus on the performances: he was a liability for the first half of the season. He has those patches in all recent seasons too. I'd retain him though, but only as one of four CBs we can call into the side and not as a guaranteed starter.

When you're totally eclipsed by the performances of a player as bog standard as Garbutt you know you're on the wane.

If you watched the games you would know that most games young Leighton has 2 players ahead of him every game, when we play Garbutt we put a winger on his wing and last time he played he got babysat by Besic, this allowing him to bomb forward, if only Leighton was allowed such a luxury.

If Garbutt leaves we'll get about 37p in a tribunal mate.

Robertson is good though.
