ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 2

If nothing else their flirtation with success the last two seasons has opened the eyes of a whole load of fans to what they’re truly like. It was probably only us United and Chelsea who knew what a cult they were before Klopp arrived but now you struggle to find a neutral who supports any team who would want them to win anything. City fans despise them more than United and that’s only after two seasons of competing against them! There’s Arsenal fans I know who would prefer Spurs to win the CL!! There is no other club I know of who could force fans to transpire their local rivalries to see them lose such is the odious nature of their fans.

I would have been dreading today, but to be honest the events of the week have desensitized me a little as the love-in reached peak level in the media.

Obviously it goes to another level if results go their way today, but to a degree history has shown they don't even have to win things to command the plaudits thrown at them.

I expect City to do the business today, but things are such that the scum will still be portrayed as the moral victors either way.

I further think on balance they'll win in Madrid although their task is made much harder by Spurs than Ajax for a host of reasons. A three week break might go against them at a time when they have a seemingly unstoppable momentum.

If they lose out today, its also a period where the expectation for the UCL final will start to weigh heavily, particularly on Klopp. There is zero pressure on Spurs in that game, none at all.

Still fuming at Barca, but unfortunately the whole PR spin they can put on that result, and the impact it will have on teams visiting there, is pure dynamite. They can dine out on that for years and years, much like Istanbul.

I can't stand it if they win even the League Cup, and it's probably not a popular view, but I think it's inevitable they'll end up with up major silverware over the course of the next few seasons. I'm a toffee, and I detest that club with every bone in my body, but I'm not going to endure spending another season desperately hoping whoever is playing them on the day can get a result. I have hated this season as a consequence. Time to focus more on ourselves.
Absolutely spot on mate. It was the same in 2013/14 when they came close under Rodgers and we've all seen how well they perform in Europe consistently. I feel it's time to accept that they're a 'top' team again and if they win stuff then it'll be deserved. I just can't take another season of supporting results elsewhere over the results of my own bloody team - it's backwards.

I just hate the vast majority of their fanbase. It's them who deserve f all.

Tbh even when they were finishing 8th under Klopp or 6th with Dalglish they were still being eulogised every single week by the media. I don’t mind them winning trophies they deserve to but they haven’t been the best team in the league this season. They may well have been the best team in the CL as soon as City went out but Spurs are a close match for them we’ll see on that one.

If their fans had a shred of level headedness no one would hate them as much as they do. If there was a season when they were comfortably the best team and their fans didn’t fee the need to behave like a religious cult about it everyone could accept it. Instead they have teams that are clearly not the best but whenever they get within a sniff of a trophy their fans become unbearable.
